when it's needing it's careening toward being alone

[The plane stopped rocking two hours ago, which made it especially easy for Mattie to doze off close to the window. Though the sky outside was dark and rain pattered lightly against the glass, it was soothing, and wide blue eyes slid shut behind orange-tinted goggles; she wouldn't remove them, not for anything.

After a while, consciousness began to ( Read more... )

[Passing by, after finally finding that freaking Library he had been hunting for months, Mello sees someone. Red hair. Matt. However, he looked a bit different from usual. Since the blond was trying to find Matt from his own universe, Mello approached, until he finally noticed that this Matt was definitively NOT from his universe.]

... Matt.

[A woman. RIGHT. Well, there was that Mello chick, so this didn't surprise him]

[She gave the blond the once-over, getting to her feet with one hand on the wall.]

Wow, you haven't called me that in a long time. [Not since they were kids, really.] What's going on? And where'd the plane go? [That's what she was worrying over the most. Was this one of the Kira tricks he'd warned her about?]

What am I supposed to call you? [Matty? Mattie? Mail? Apparently it was common for Mello's to be with Matts for some reason]

I'm not the Mello you know.

Fft. [She just gave him a look, leaning against the wall - which was also textured, she was surprised to discover.] I only know one Mello, twit. [She didn't feel too inclined to answer his other question, since he should've already known it.]

[Mello stared at her. What did she just call him? For him, she was just someone who he had no relation to. Mello didn't allow random strangers to call him 'twit'.]

[AND she didn't answer his question either. He frowned]

Well, here you'll know more than one, I assure you. This is a place where many parallel universes converge together; there are several versions of me, various several of you, each comes from their very own universe that might me different from whatever happen in yours.

In other words. I'm not the Mello you know; and you are not the Matt I know. [The Matt he knew didn't have breasts. Although, it looked fine on her]

[Mattie tilted her head, a bit to the left; blinking, she reached up and slowly slid her goggles up onto her head to get a better look at him. If what he was saying was correct...]

Oh. [A bit of a flush stained her cheeks and the bridge of her nose as she looked him over; come to think of it, he was a tiny bit more muscular than she recalled Mello - her own Mello, anyway - being.] I'm Mattie, then.

[There was no way he could call her Mattie. Not without sounding like some dork who just became a teenager; he so hated diminutives]

Call me M, for now. [It was stupid to call himself "Mello" if there were about three other people with the same name. If necessary, Mello would make up a new name] Do you know about Kira case?

[She just gave him another look.] I am not calling you M. [The Mello she was on her way to meet had asked her to call him that before he left Wammy's. She'd basically told him to kiss a very private part of her body - which he might've done, had he been a normal teenage boy. She had to sigh at that; Mello's complete lack of sex drive seemed like such a waste.]

I only know of what little we were told at Wammy's - back before L died, of course. [She shifted where she stood, determined to maintain her ground. Her own Mello would lose respect for her if she ever stepped back from him, no matter how awkward the situation was; this one didn't seem much different.]

Then don't call me anything, fuck if I care. [This is why women sometimes got on Mello's nerves. No, not women. Matt. This was a Matt thing.]

[There was a small moment of silence as Mello though. The fact that she knew he existed was good enough; if Kira - the real Kira, the one Mello knew - ever showed up here, he'd need someone - who was not an albino with growth issues - to help him to control him.] Good.

[Well, priorities, right.] You cannot leave this mansion, no matter how hard you try. Exploding the walls and doors do not work. There are kitchens that provide all the food you need, libraries, living rooms and all there is in a mansion, including bedrooms with bathrooms. [He was not going to slow down, she better to listen to everything and keep her questions for later, because Mello was not going to repeat himself.] There are rooms with an X on them, which you should avoid; however, not all rooms were discovered, so you might find a room that will have a 'X' later on.

And you cannot die in here.

[She watched him, listening closely and mentally noting everything he said. Giving a sharp nod once he finished speaking, she opened her own mouth, confident that he was done.]

One question. Are you sure you're not my Mello? The attitude seems about right. [She smirked, brushing a stray strand of fine red hair out of her face. The smirk faded when she realized how curly it had gotten.] Ugh. I hate when it gets like this.

[Her eyes widened as she looked away, realizing that he probably didn't care about how her hair looked. Her own Mello didn't, she already knew.] Sorry.

[Mello gave her a bored look. Yes. He was sure. That pair made him sure]

Matt from my universe lacks those. [He gave a small emotionless nod towards her breasts] He is a man.

[She shrank away a little when he nodded to her chest, her arms coming up to instinctively cover them.]

The Matt you know... is a guy? [Wow, her mind was completely blown by that. Mello must have been telling the truth, though; her own best friend hasn't acted so weird about her body since she'd hit puberty and actually grown them.

Then she snickered lightly.] Is he gay?

[Mello actually seems a bit surprised at that question]

Why do you want to know about that?

[Foot, meet mouth. Mattie's flush dominated her face after what she asked hit her fully, and after his reaction registered with her consciousness; she reeled back, banging into the wall a little as she stumbled away, babbling,] Oh, hell- Sorry, sorry! I'm gonna- Yeah. [Shaking a little, she briefly met his eyes with a shocked and unbearably embarrassed look.]

[Oh for fuck's sake. Was every single Matt in love with a Mello? Really, this was getting a bit disturbing; this Mello doesn't actually worry about those. He was never looking for a lover, nor he wanted one, and he knew if he ever got one he'd be the worst lover on the face of the earth.]

[Mello put a hand over his forehead]

Right.
I don't know if he was gay or bi, or heterosexual. I had other things on my mind; like capturing Kira, like not getting killed [Even if that part didn't go well since he did die]. Sounds much more important than fucking my best friend.

[Her flush faded; after that, instead of being embarrassed and apologetic, she was just plain pissed.]

Look. I was just basing that assumption off the fact that I had a big crush on you- him, fuck me - when I was fourteen. I was on a plane to meet him at LAX when I got yanked here, so.

Besides. You were making kind of a big deal about my boobs. [Somehow, Mattie managed to push down the childish urge to stick her tongue out at him and add, "So there!"]
