Odd Pairing Prompts brightredosca March 26 2008, 21:45:24 UTC
There are some pairings I like that I don't see often: LightxMatt, LightxMikami.

Aaand then there's the pairing I like that I never see: MattxMikami. (Come on, people, where's the Sidekick!Fic? XD)

Hey! Hey! I sort of wrote one! ...except they did nothing but talk, and it wasn't really all that pairing-ish, but stillll. :( & I think expertease wrote a mighty delicious drabble featuring them once.

I second the motion, anyway.

hrmmm. Now I wanna write Light/Matt. I've only ever written 'em in the same fic once & they didn't have much chemistry. Acey Dearest on ff.net wrote a really fantastic fic with bizarre Light/Matt in it.

but anyway, I digress. As far as odd pairing prompts, anything with Mikami in it is rare. Even though he's in DN loads more than Matt is, and Matt's sort of a dark horse fandom superstar. ♥

Love the icon & the song it got in my head!

I shall have to check out your story! I don't mind if it's just talking. I don't necessarily care about the pr0n aspect; it's just interesting to see random characters interacting. ^_^

Mm, it's odd how Matt became so beloved. Not bad, just odd. When DN first came out, my money was on Hal to become the big breakout character. (Blond n' busty, carries gun=fanboy fodder)

I reciprocate your icon love. We're spreading the despair, yes? XD

I'm Saulie on ff.net and I never write porn, so you're in sorta luck. XD ♥

Yeah? That makes some sense! I couldn't've predicted Matt's fame, either, though I always liked him my first time through DN--though I could never remember his name. When chapter 99 came out I was like "Nooooo! Not that guy with the dorky striped shirt and the goggles!!! D: D: D: I loved that guy!"

Matt > Hal as breakout character, I think, because the female fanbase was louder than the male fanbase?

Yes! Even to DN. Light, staring forlornly out his classroom window: ...I'm in despair!! This corrupt, crime-laden world has left me in despair!!!

I like writing prompts that're both bizarrely specific & very open-ended. Like, oh, I don't know, 'Mikami' & 'letter opener'. Which could run from Mikami opening letters as part of a boring summer internship to receiving an engraved letter opener from his estranged sister to Mikami stabbing someone to death with a letter opener, really. XD

& particularly since it's the DN fandom I guess I'd also like to see scenarios or phrases unlikely to be encountered in the Serious Business Main Plot, forcing authors into more creativity & characters into scenarios that would've taken place 'off-screen', so to speak.

I mean, if Light can execute a brilliant plan as Kira using a pinata, he can be my guest (bright guy) & I'd watch him do it, but I'd also like to watch him be a wild success at breaking one at his twelfth birthday party.

's my two cents.

Prefer pairs of characters to pairings, too. Thus more variety. If Light and Matsuda want to play a game of Scrabble or have an intense afterlife debate, they can; oooor, they can make out in ( ... )

I love you.

"Light and Matsuda playing a game of Scrabble in the afterlife that leads to a moral debate, and later awkward reminiscences on that one time they made out in an elevator."

Geez.

I shall bottle your love & prize it in a dusty candlelit cellar, & use it to christen such a fic if it's ever written (unlikely, but who the hell knows).

Off-screen stuff is my favorite kind, personally. I'm writing a series of drabbles about the Yagami family, and the last one was about Soichiro trying to figure out whether he's allowed to give baby!Light solid food yet...so yeah, that's the sort of thing I like. Canon is awesome too, I want to have some of everything. But obscure prompts are better than obvious ones like 'justice' or whatever, though I'll probably use things like that on occassion. And I agree with you about the pairs thing--I tend to interpret 'pairing' that way anyway. :D

And...seriously, that Scrabble thing? Is amazing.

I will now offer several words that are guaranteed to be the inspirations for the next eighteen thousand master works of literature.
Actually I won't. I started writing a list, but it just became a bunch of words with a double o in them (moo, foot, etc.) Therefore I submit that you should prompt people with 'oo'. Yeah. That's nice and non-specific.
And also: crazy rave party. Or the metric system. Or hexidecimal. Or bears.
I know! make people write something without using the word 'the'! :O I like that one. Use it use it use it! Or don't. This isn't very organized. I'm kind of just typing without thinking. Um...I'l give you more random phrases/words later.

Now I'm picturing L fighting a bear using a glowstick and some ecstacy. And Kompressor watching him die because Kompressor does not dance. XD;

I can nag you about it anytime I want, so no pressure. XD; Just let me know if you think of anything cool, okay? And thank you for joining! ♥ It will be awesome, I swear.

ich_bin_puppy March 27 2008, 22:22:27 UTC
Well that is all L ever does, clearly. Only glowsticks are not for L, they are for Mikami, when he's trying to be subtle.
(Isn't it great that subtle has a silent letter in it?)

Aww, come on, can't Mikami share? He needs to learn to play nicely with the other children.

(And yes. Yes it is.)

What about a prompt of... minor characters? Like, focus on a character that only has a couple lines, or better yet, just a name. XD There are lots of characters in the series that I bet would be loads of fun to write about, and relate them to the themes of Death Note, or whatever. The Yotsuba dudes, politicians, Aiber, Wedy, Raye Penber, the NPA director, Roger, etc etc.

Matt doesn't count. He gets an incredible amount of attention for being an extremely minor character. :-P

I second this! There are side characters up the wazoo that could be fascinating thrown into the spotlight. &hearts

Seconded. Yotsuba guys, darnit. :( Yotsuba guuuuys. Or those random Mafia cohorts of Mello's, too. HTR13 told us that Kal Snydar liked Anne of Green Gables. There's gotta be something there, I swear to God.

Has anyone ever written anything about Lind L. Tailor before?

Or even relatively major characters that get no love. Aizawa, anyone? Mogi? Ide?

Reply

serria March 27 2008, 00:14:50 UTC
Yeah, you know, lots of major characters go completely under the radar in this fandom! I mean, as far as popular characters go, you've got everyone you can slash (mainly Light, L, Mello, Near, Mikami and Matt) plus Misa if the fan is feeling adventurous. A character like Aizawa is richly developed in the series, but I rarely see a fan touch upon him. Or Higuchi, the third Kira. Or Soichiro Yagami!

...Kal Snyder + Anne of Green Gables = win storyline. XD
