I like writing prompts that're both bizarrely specific & very open-ended. Like, oh, I don't know, 'Mikami' & 'letter opener'. Which could run from Mikami opening letters as part of a boring summer internship to receiving an engraved letter opener from his estranged sister to Mikami stabbing someone to death with a letter opener, really. XD

& particularly since it's the DN fandom I guess I'd also like to see scenarios or phrases unlikely to be encountered in the Serious Business Main Plot, forcing authors into more creativity & characters into scenarios that would've taken place 'off-screen', so to speak.

I mean, if Light can execute a brilliant plan as Kira using a pinata, he can be my guest (bright guy) & I'd watch him do it, but I'd also like to watch him be a wild success at breaking one at his twelfth birthday party.

's my two cents.

Prefer pairs of characters to pairings, too. Thus more variety. If Light and Matsuda want to play a game of Scrabble or have an intense afterlife debate, they can; oooor, they can make out in an elevator. Whatever!

...although come to think of it, something super-exact like "Light and Matsuda playing a game of Scrabble in the afterlife that leads to a moral debate, and later awkward reminiscences on that one time they made out in an elevator" would be challengingly fun, too.

...aw, hell, I just spent several paragraphs saying 'I dunno', didn't I?

thus sayeth the windbag. cough.

I love you.

"Light and Matsuda playing a game of Scrabble in the afterlife that leads to a moral debate, and later awkward reminiscences on that one time they made out in an elevator."

Geez.

I shall bottle your love & prize it in a dusty candlelit cellar, & use it to christen such a fic if it's ever written (unlikely, but who the hell knows).

Off-screen stuff is my favorite kind, personally. I'm writing a series of drabbles about the Yagami family, and the last one was about Soichiro trying to figure out whether he's allowed to give baby!Light solid food yet...so yeah, that's the sort of thing I like. Canon is awesome too, I want to have some of everything. But obscure prompts are better than obvious ones like 'justice' or whatever, though I'll probably use things like that on occassion. And I agree with you about the pairs thing--I tend to interpret 'pairing' that way anyway. :D

And...seriously, that Scrabble thing? Is amazing.

Oh! I totally just figured out who you are on ff.net. |D 'Minutiae', right? I've really enjoyed reading those! I love what I've read of your fic~~your Mikami 20 facts were such an excellent punch in the stomach. ♥ 'm an admirer of your stuff, yes, & mean to read more of it.

But I digress. Yes! Canon & off-screen are best interspersed with one another; together each makes the other more poignant, I think...reading about the Yagami family's past makes canon!Light so horribly depressing, sometimes, aaah. But good. Perspective = ♥.

...& thaaaaaaaaaank you. XD God. Thank you, week of insomnia and subsequent off-the-wall humor. Damn me, now I might end up writing it someday.

An excellent punch in the stomach, eh? That's probably one of the best descriptions of my work I've heard in a long time! Oh my god, that sounds so cool! And yeah, you've got it right. I have seen you before, you've reviewed me a few times...I had no idea you'd read Minutiae and 20 Facts, though, I'm so glad that you have! I'm going to try and update Minutiae tonight--though these drabbles take longer than one might think. XD; Soon, anyway. So yes, I'm so glad you like my work, it makes me really happy. ♥

And yes, it's important to mix the two. Like, in Minutiae, I've been doing a lot of stuff about the past, and so the next one is going to be in the present and talk about the Kira case, for variety. If there's no connection to canon, it's not really a fanfic anymore. And sorry to babble on about my own work...at 3 AM I'm hard-pressed to think of better examples.

You totally should write it. It would be amazing.
