I've been browsing trying to read everything I can, and intro posts seem to be the norm, so I thought I would post here before I got my act together to post to the IC community itself (also because I have a few questions/would like a bit of advice). Anyway -

Hi :) I'm a high school senior/soon to be college student, feel free to call me Sharon ( Read more... )

Howdy Sharon, I'm Dave. Welcome aboard.

First off, you're correct. "Mun" is short for mundane, and "pup" is short for "puppet", they are the player and the character respectively. Though I find both terms sort of nauseating.

When you put a "lock" on threads, it can mean two things. "Locked to 'username'" means only that character can reply there. "Locked from 'username'" means that character cannot reply there. Such as if you had something secret you needed to talk about and didn't want a particular character to overhear, for instance.

Most of the RP here is verbal and interactive, thoush a lot of text only questions are asked due to characters posting in via the Nexus terminals.

Mun = the player, possibly from Mundane, while Pup is for Puppets, the characters. You've got it rite :3

RP is, sometimes, usually...lots-a-time? verbal, but we have room for anyone who can put words in an order that is pleasing to the eye and sensical to the rules. You'll find your groove-thing, don't worry. Have you checked out the wiki? I know we have one of those somewhere around here. :V. The Nexus itself, though, is a mutable place that doesn't...really have a set form. Hence why we never describe it. It's got a Strong Mutable trait, to borrow from D&D. Need a chair? There's one right there :O.

[Lock] is an OOC-type thing. If I locked my post from all pandas, then it's assumed that no pandas can see my post, and therefore never hear about how tasty I find their flesh >:E.

If it's a generic lock, then it's usually a private conversation that no one else is seeing.

Hey, welcome aboard.

In regards to RP style, there's actually anything from one-liners to people who will post not only conversation, but description and thoughts as well. Probably the best guideline is to just go along with the type of writing style the original poster puts up--not only will that help keep it smoother, but itt'll give you a chance to try out new rp styles. Only thing to remember is that most of the point of a DM post is to have characters interact...so if all you're doing is a narrative, no one is likely to add to it unless there's some action or situation.

'Mun' is short for 'mundane'--as in the every day person playing the game.
'Pup' is short for puppet--the character who's strings you are manipulating in game.

A 'lock' means that the characters involved in that threads posts have gone to a place where other people cannot hear or see what's being said. The equivilent of going into a private room to talk.

Thanks for that! :) I always do try to balance narrative and dialogue - I'm just afraid I'll end up looking verbose for putting in some description of how my character looks a little misplaced*, etc... (In other words if I describe something it's usually because I want other players to know it/I'm "tossing them a line" to try and start RP - if that makes any sense.) I'm going to try to be a bit more dialogue-based though, it looks fun :)

*if you can look misplaced in the Nexus anyway!

But don't do the script-style thing, as seen below.

Thrust: *waves* What's up?

No need to put the name first.

Aww, since all of the questions seems to be answered, I'll just offer my greeting XD; *wave* Welcome! Your character sounds rather awesome, if I do say so myself. I can't wait to see him around!
