We just adopted a new kitty from
cloudscudding 's friend (who had inherited an abandoned mommy cat). We were reluctant to get a 2 month-old this close to Fest - worried about leaving a little one alone with the other cats for seven weekends, but we just couldn't resist this little guy:
Back home, he quickly won our hearts. I spent the afternoon in the basement, cutting out my last client's costume while he frolicked, explored, and eventually napped on some scrap fabric. He followed me upstairs and discovered our cache of cat toys. It's now empty, and the toys scattered everywhere. This morning, he played hide-and-seek with my skirt hem while I got ready for work. Too darn cute.
Miss Orlando is ambivalent, but wary. She just watches him a lot, hissing briefly whenever he comes too close (all perfectly normal). Miss Bonkers, on the other hand, is quite displeased. She hisses and growls if they end up in the same room together. We try to reassure her while still discouraging the mean behavior. She's had less experience with other cats than Orlando, so it will probably take some time for her to adjust.
Of course, he's just romping around, being a kitten and trying to avoid the big mean women. By the end of yesterday evening, he was wiped out:
Now we just have to settle on a name. We've gotten many great suggestions from our Facebook friends. So far, Rufus and Dexter are on the top of the list. As for our fest worries, we're hoping to entice some friends to take turns for the 7 weekends to come over to make sure the little guy is doing OK and gets fed, since he'll need kitten food. Ah, logistics.
