A couple weeks ago, Eric and I picked up a hanging bird feeder for our backyard. We figured we'd get a few birds here and there, and that would keep crazy Miss Bonkers entertained, if nothing else. (She's been following us around the house non-stop lately.)
Well, we must have picked some awesome bird food (or the birds in our neighborhood don't have many other options), because a giant FLEET of birds comes into our yard to feed now. They're all little brown birds - I think finches or sparrows. Last night, we counted over thirty between the feeder and the ground below the feeder.
Other local critters also come to the feast. One morning, I looked out of the studio to see the birds on the ground sharing food with a squirrel and a couple of bunnies. It was like a freakin' Disney movie. Sadly, Bonkers is already bored with watching them. For all her crazy-eyed bite-the-humans games, she really doesn't have that hunting instinct.
UPDATE 8/6/10: As of last night, Bonkers has renewed her interest in the birdy goodness outside. I found both Bonkers and Miss Orlando perched on the couch in the studio, watching the feeding frenzy intently. I think they were attracted by the noise, now that we turned off the air conditioning and opened the windows again.
Oh, and the fleet has grown to a good 50+ birds. They hang out on our lawn furniture, plants, and fence now too. If we get a good picture of this crazy scene, I'll post it here.
