Job hunting when you have a job probably isn't smart, but....

I don't know whether I've said, but work lately has been really stressful and if any of you folks know me then you will know that I'm usually pretty chill about things...

Not now.  I've lost some weight, have had some trouble sleeping, having a lot of headaches... The only thing I could it is was because the job is SO stressful right now.

It's great, I'm actually using more of my brain, probably the most I've used of any job in recent memory.  The best part is I actually get to write a lot for work.  No, it isn't sex-filled hurt-comfort squee fests, nor is the SERIOUS screenplay I'd been working on, but I wrie all the time for this job... it's dry boring stuff that at times has to be vetted by the company's legal counsel before we can reply, but it's still writing.

The thing is about it, though, is that is so unending.  It's frustrating that I can't work from home.  I've been told they won't even consider it.  This despite the fact that I don't even take incoming calls anymore, even though I could at home given the right tools.  I think the real impediment to me working from home is the expense of getting me a laptop (although I don't know how expensive that would be, they just laid off 30 or 40 of folks who used laptops, along with about 450 folks that used to take calls...

So, they got the laptops.  So what's keeping them back?  Trust?  I don't hink so.... I work extremely well being self-motivated, my first call resolution rate when I was on the phones was in the top 5% of the company, my quality ratings averaged about 94%...   I don't even need a lot of guidance on writing a legal response the lawyers don't usually find a lot of problems with them.  There's a reason I got this promotion and why I've survived the layoffs..  They told us we were 'key employees' that will have jobs for the foreseeable future.....

But they don't trust me to work from home?

yeah, right....

I'm exploring an at-home position with a major computer manufacturer who supplies the computer and the phone and gives you an allowance for the phone service...  What's not to love?  Before, I couldn't quite work it out becuase it was only part-time.  Now they have full-time position with one of the biggest, if not the hippest *cough* Apple *cough* companies in the industry...

Why would I NOT apply?

Currently I work for a tired wireless ISP company that has a huge bandwidth advantage over other 4g providers, the amount of spectrum they own is amazing, but there's just not the capital there to exploit it (recently moved about 600 jobs overseas) vs potentially working for a computer and accessories company that has hot items that everyone wants even if they can't afford it....

My first applicaiton to the company sorta faltered because I couldn't justify leaving a full-time gig for a part-time one scheduling was an issue.

Now?

They got full-fime ones open and I'm all going for it... I'm a star in this company, 'wow' ing customers right and left and getting 'good job' from senior VPs and thanks from the CEO, but man... I'd feel tons beter about this job if weren't bleeding  money and customers because of some very bad decision-making done.  And all that on top of the companies inability to strike while the iron's hot.. It doesn't seem like it's moving forward... They're treading water, on the brink of drowning, whle the other company stays on the dock, their feet completely dry.

I don't think there is any question in my mind: I'm going to have to leave, if the fruit job's offered to me.  this is too good a chance to pass up.
