Catching Up, Part III: Pipe Dream

I was cooking a meal recently and it was my favorite type of creation. You look in the fridge, discover ingredients, and make something of this. In this case, chicken, leeks, and cabbage became stir-fry. But I also decided that, if I ever had a new house, I would really, really like to have an Iron Chef kitchen. You look in the fridge, note the meat of choice and prepare to cook. You look over to a patiently awaiting assistant standing in a corner and say, 'Bring me a leek!' or 'I need fresh nutmeg!'. [Just thought I would mention that, no, I did not use nutmeg in the stir-fry.] And, if you were feeling a bit less than energetic, you could add, 'And make sure that leek is sliced!!'. Imagine having whatever fresh ingredients (particularly spices) that you need with just a snap of a command.

Actually, I had previous kitchen desire a number of years ago. A time-stop food storage unit. A nice unit about the size of a fridge. Inside, time is at a stand still. Put ice cream in there and it does not melt. Put leftovers in and they do not spoil. Your spouse calls and is going to be an hour or two late, the roast is not ruined, just put it in the unit until dinner arrives. Having a big party? Make everything a week in advance, pull it out at just the right moment in just the right state and enjoy yourself at the party. I'm still waiting for this one.
