Catching Up, Part I: My Soul Will Have To Wait

Over a several year period, I would occasionally here a song that I liked, usually combining upbeat music with lyrics that didn't match. It took me most of that time to connect that the group of songs were all by Sublime. Mentioned to College Grrl, that I wished they would come out with a greatest hits album. She, being the angel that she is, remembered this and, with their Gold album having just come out, gave me such for a Christmas present. Much to my surprise it 44 songs on it. After listening to it over two sessions, most of them are gar..., um, seemed like early and less refined than the songs that I actually knew, which only took up about a quarter of the album.

Now, having done the research that I never did before, I find out that they only actually did three albums and the one that I just received is basically a compilation of every bloody song they ever put on an album. And that there actually was a greatest hits album back in 1999. So, the facade of a band slowly become more popular and producing better songs turned into a band that died at the same time that they had their major label debut that just started hitting stations that I listened to, oh, about the time their greatest hits album came out. The album, to put a fine point on it, that I was waiting for to come out.

Oh well. I still like the songs I know and will probably just cut my own greatest hits album.
