Well, life is continuing to be interesting after a busy weekend. Hmm, oh, the weekend? Ok, we'll go back a step.
We were suppose to pick up the step girl on Saturday and bring her up for the weekend, maybe get a few things done before an evening dinner engagement. Got a call before we left. Could we go to a dance team competition that a friend of hers was performing in? So, being the fun loving people that we are, we said yes. Grabbed a bite on the way so that we could get done there a bit earlier than planned. Picked up the step girl and headed to the competition, skipping lunch since she wasn't hungry and we had just eaten a light breakfast. Got there slight before the doors opened at 12:30. Found out that her friend's team was basically at the end. Got a hot dog at 1. Competition was suppose to start at 1:15. Started around 2. It was almost 5:30 before we left. Sitting on crowded gym bleachers the whole time. With the step girl sitting up in the no-parents, cool section. Oh well.
Headed straight from there to
Miu_Lin's latest ethnic outing at Rio Grande in Bethesda, which we found only due to the excellent directions that we had. Waited an hour or so for a table for 16 people in a crowded restaurant that doesn't take reservations. Food and company was pretty good, though we got stuck at the off table.
Got home, finally around 10ish and went to bed. Got a call around midnight. A few weeks ago, my lady's father had fallen and was taken to the hospital, then went to a nursing home for therapy. The call was to say that he was taken back to the hospital due to chest pains. Bad sleep night. Found out the next morning that they couldn't find anything and was back at the nursing home.
Sunday, we gotten invited out to a going away lunch for a couple from church who were moving to Ohio. Spent a long time there. Took step girl home. Long weekend without much done.
So...last night we get a collect phone call from my lady's mother. Well, actually, sister. It was a tag team effort. Her Mom, while at the nursing home, was reaching for something when the ball joint on her femur (the one that fits in the hip bone) broke off, where upon she collapsed and passed out. She is doing alright, all considering. They are operating on her tomorrow. My lady is also flying out there tomorrow morning.
Since she will be gone, I might be driving out to Ohio this weekend for the memorial service for an old friend's mother who has been in a nursing home out there for a long time.
On the bright side, I have two job interviews, one on Thursday and one on Monday. Both have potential of gaining a clearance, which has been one of my goals for this go around. The first is with my lady's company. The downside to this is that I, apparently, will not be able to work in IT while they process my clearance (which could take up to a year). Not ideal, but worth it to break into that world and the thought of working at, say, Barnes and Nobles and getting discounted books and CDs does have a certain appeal. The second one actually has work that they think I could be doing, albeit in downtown D.C. So the market is a lot better than a year ago. I will hopefully have an offer in hand (and possibly actually be working) before the year is out.
Anyway, that's the news on this end.
