I'm stepping out the door...

Today, after 2 or three days of traveling in an airplane, with stops in New York, Ireland, and Germany, I set foot out the door and find myself in Kuwait. It's noon... 120 degrees or so... I only get a chance to look around for a few minutes before we're herded onto a bus and sent to our next staging area. Kuwait is so... empty. There's nothing. Just sand and occaisional roads and buildings clustered together. What a strange place for anybody to want to live.

They sent us to to the hottest place in all of Kuwait: Camp Buering. Rumor has it that temperatures reached 135 degrees in the midday heat at least once while we were there. It was pretty nice though. One just spends all their time ducking from air conditioned tent to air conditioned tent. I didn't dare stay outside for more than the 15 minutes it takes to get anywhere... sunburns... I didn't get any though. My army tan actually started fading while I was there because I kept out of the sun enough.

We were there for 10 days. The food was fantastic! I found out that I absolutely adore Kiwi. Amazing. Their gym and MWR facilities are excellent. I wasn't bored. I hung out mainly with my Sargeants three, the armorer and a couple other guys. We spent half the time there acclimating and the other half getting briefed or trained on how to survive in Iraq. Rule #1: Don't shoot the Brits. *laughs* They certainly have their priorities straight.
