So I've been back home since early Sunday morning, and it's been sobering to reflect that just last week we were in Orlando, the center of so much tragedy recently. In fact, we left late Saturday night and didn't hear about the shooting until long after we'd arrived home. We weren't anywhere near the club's location, although I understand that he scoped out Disney Springs and we were there several times, as our hotel was just down the river. Scary thought. My sympathy goes out to the victims and their families.
We also walked along Seven Seas Lagoon twice during our visit - we had breakfast one morning at O'hana at the Polynesian and took the water transport from the MK to the Grand Floridian and the Poly. I was very aware of the signs posted all along the water; my daughter-in-law asked what they were and I told her there was no swimming at the beaches, most likely because of gators and snakes. Our resort (Port Orleans) was on the river and it was clearly posted that you couldn't go into the water there. Even in you don't see gators, you should always assume any body of water in Florida has them. Heck, my brother lives in Tampa and he's had them in his driveway! That's one of the reasons pools are fenced in, other than protecting the neighborhood kids. So I am sorry for the family of that child, but I would no more let my grandkids wander along a shoreline at night than I would let them roam through the woods of Yellowstone (no alligators but one should always assume there are bears.) It's a real world out there, not VR, and it's not always a safe one.
I have just about recovered from miles & miles of walking in horrible heat and humidity, and plan to post at least one chapter each in Three Continents and CRM this weekend. I can't wait to get back to writing! And I am full of plans for the next story - which will be in the Harry Potter fandom, a sequel. (The Wizarding World of Harry Potter is AWESOME!!!! by the way, if you get down that way.)
I thought about ranting about various recent stances on gun control but no one is listening and I'm too tired, so I'm just going to Let it Go. Assisted by my g-daughter, who was so adorable at the Frozen sing-along (even if that movie makes me crazy.)
