Word:
I'm still surprised at this discovery: If you use
styles in Microsoft Word, you can get it to do what you want.
!
It's a bit like discovering that you can exchange the
green pieces of paper in your wallet for goods and services. Sure, it's great to learn, but it would have been nice to have known ten years ago, before wasting an ungodly amount of time doing things the hard way. (Not to mention the nuisance of people snickering at your inadequate bartering skills.)
Now if only you could add some emacs functionality to MS Word, such as search-as-you-type, I might be able to use it on a regular basis without frustration.
Yeah, right...
Comcast:
Every time the temperature goes above 90, our internet connection dies and the cable gets noisy. When it hits 100, the cable cuts out altogether. It's California - shouldn't they plan for the occasional heatwave?
Annoying. I guess we could get satellite or DSL, but I can't imagine those would be any more reliable. (Setting up a dish in an apartment is a nuisance anyway.)
Now, if we were rich, we could get two services and
aggregate the bandwidth. That would be all sorts of cool, but the non-rich thing gets in the way.
Alternatively, Usha suggests telling Comcast to set up fans around their infrastructure. Tempting.
What else can we do? Smoke signals?
Windows:
Why does my computer think that "D:\music\new\Programs" is the place to look for (and place into) shortcuts that go into the Start menu? Wouldn't "C:\Documents and Settings\David\Start Menu\Programs" be a better choice?
