NPR is like a box of chocolates, you never know what you're going to get. (Yes, okay, you're going to get chocolate. But what kind of masochist wants
whipped egg whites, vanilla cream and english walnuts with shredded coconut filling?)
Urrr... where was I? ... Right, NPR.
Good:
There was an interview with some author by the name of Peter Beinart, who struck me as extremely perceptive (and I'm rarely impressed). He talked about the problems facing (and created by) liberals today, and brought up something like half a dozen semi-related interesting points in the span of ten minutes.
For example: Liberals value civil liberties, which is one reason for the liberal backlash against the 'war on terror'. However, acts of terror end up subverting civil liberties, so while liberals may disagree with the methods of the current administration, they need a clear plan for preventing / combating terrorism.
A bunch of prescient comments like that. Anyway, now I'll probably have to read
his book.
Bad:
A day or two ago, there were two separate people who, in a discussion of Israel/Lebanon, suggested that Hezbollah's current popularity may quickly wane. The theory goes that its supporters will consider that Hezbollah initiated the current conflict, and is thus responsible for the damage to Lebanon.
What the hell kind of wishful thinking BS is that?
Ugly:
Sorry, no ugly today.
Here's a completely off-topic youtube clip instead. Keep watching, it gets worse when she starts conjugating. (NSFW if you have sound on.)
(Update: Ow. Fuck. I just saw
the next one in the series and hurt my face with my hand by way of face-slap. Damn, that is wrong. Though at least she doesn't try to conjugate this time.)
