"The burlesque existentialist is a stock character of the popular imagination, dressed in black and uttering gnomic assertions about life and the universe."

The phrase "burlesque existentialist" does not make me imagine the bleak goth existentialist stereotype. It makes me think of hot girls in very little clothing dancing about while singing ( Read more... )

Unfortunately, last I heard, there wasn't going to be a big burlesque show this summer, because Jessica pulled out and Trista doesn't think she can do it on her own. Trista mentioned they may do something for Clucking Blossom, and I know there's a lot of ladies who want to do it...

Heh. I know exactly the song. "The Futile" by Say Anything.

"Shit! Nothing makes sense! So I won't think about it, I'll go with the ignorance. Eat, sleep, fuck, and flee: In four words, that's me, I am full of indifference. What do the old people teach us except how to die? DIE! DIE! What do your hissy fits teach you except how to cry, pussy cry? And the futile, the futile, it outweighs the beautiful!"

Of course, it'd have to be less punk than the original...

*laughs*

(It reminds me of the Sifl & Olly song "Performance Art." It has a chorus of goth sock puppets singing "Oh we're so fucking dark." You can listen to it on this MySpace page.

It'd be cool if you ladies got a show together. My friend Mary might also be interested in helping set things up. She was in the other burlesque troupe, and she's the one Carey passed it off to -- but she's way cool and isn't a problem.
