so me and phil went to milwaukee this weekend. twas fun. we went to the zoo and toured the miller brewing factory (free samples!) and went to the art museum where my nose was inches from a monet, some warhols, frank lloyd wright furniture/fixtures, and a sally mann, among others. what a mix -- zoo, beer, art. well, i guess that is me in a nutshell. monday phil had a business meeting in this little town 20 minutes north, port washington (claim to fame: dahmer trial held there). i went down to the lake michigan shore and took some pics while he was at his meeting. it's a cute little town. milwaukee was nice too. it's a pretty clean and safe-seeming city, with a nice (though a bit sprawling) downtown area. we ate at rock bottom brewery (yum) and the water street brewery (also yum). i like trying new restaurants in new cities.
well, i got my annual merit increase - 6%. that is very good, considering. still no word on the promotion. i am like the world's stupidest horse, STILL trying to catch that dangling carrot. will i ever learn? sadly, probably not.
due to phil's poor alarm-setting skills, i failed to make it to my first class last friday. luckily, the instructor knows me and i was able to make up some thing about having to take care of some work stuff before leaving town later that day, and he was cool with it. no class this week due to labor day, so i basically got a 2-week extension on my summer break, which is awesome.
my assistant just showed me some stamps on a letter we got from iceland because she thought they were cool. this reminded me that i used to collect stamps (NERD ALERT!). how do you forget you used to be a collector of something? i'm getting old. i think i still have a box full of stamps somewhere. i wonder if any of them are worth money. hmm...
it's kinda hard to believe i've survived this long without having my own computer. the next two semesters are gonna be HELL without one. i wish the computer fairy would leave a dell or a mac under my pillow.
this katrina shit is nuts, but what people are turning into is even worse. i guess some helicopter full of supplies tried to land on this hospital to give stuff to the people there, but they were met by a crowd of refugees with guns who shot at them, so they couldn't land. it is like every man for themselves. scary shit.
alrighty whities, i am out.
