Southern culture on the skids

I spent the weekend enjoying the crap out of the country. To top it off, I came home to this story:

A man who authorities said tried to barge into a home in Harrison where his estranged wife was staying wound up being shot.

Janice Atkinson of the sheriff's department said Marvin Oldham, 45, was shot by his 60-year-old mother-in-law and then by a 74-year-old neighbor.

He was taken to Erlanger Hospital in serious condition after the incident late Friday afternoon.

She said Oldham had gone to the home of the mother-in-law, Betty Hale. She said he was pushing his way in when Ms. Hale shot him in the shoulder with a 9mm handgun.

She said he continued to try to get inside and began throwing items and threatening to kill those in the home. He was then shot by a neighbor, Oliver Burns, who was armed with a 22 rifle.

Oldham was apparently trying to see the estranged wife, Bertha Casteel, 39.

County detectives are continuing to investigate the incident.

It reminds me of one of my favorite yards signs. "Trespassers will be shot. Survivors will be shot again."
