Vote

I always take the kids with me when I vote. I think it's important for them to see the process. I didn't know how it worked until the first time I voted. We've gone enough that little man says, "That's the the church where we vote," when we drive by.

I wanted to vote early this time because little man has school on election day and I didn't want him to miss. We went to Northgate Mall before the place opened, hoping to beat the lines. No such luck. Early voting was set up on the Sears end of the mall this year and the line was already to Claire's when we got there. Luckily, I came prepared with a workbook for him and a bus for her. I also bribed them. I told them that if they were good, we would go to the library and play on the children's computers.

They were very, very good. I let him go up ahead and sit on a bench so that he could work without having to get up every few minutes. He thought he was quite the grownup, sitting by himself so far from me. Of course, he was in sight the whole time. She drove her bus on the floor, made me hold her, and let the people around us tell her how cute is. I did have to keep little man from telling everyone who we were voting for.

It only took 45 minutes to get there and get the job done. They just happened to have candy for the kids as we turned in our ballot. Now they want to vote everyday, if it means a lollipop and the library afterwards. :)

They're going to get to stay up late on Tuesday and watch the election coverage, too.
