Last weekend
nonspecific came into town, bearing gifts. The best one was a bag she crocheted from plastic bags! Way to reuse. Definitely one of my favorite presents ever. We went out to dinner with
falfox and
solfox. It was nice to sit around and eat and talk about our gardens. :)
While talking with the foxes I was describing how I live within walking distance of the grocery store but I can only get one or two days worth of food b/c I have no good way to carry them home. Then I remembered the big, plastic, Radio Flyer wagon my mom had gotten the kids a few years ago. That would hold quite a bit of food! Well, I put it to the test on Monday.
I learned that:
a) the kids refuse to walk when I'm pulling a "riding toy" behind me,
b) I got to the store faster because I could walk at my own pace,
c) I can now buy milk and cans and not have to worry about having to carry them the whole way back,
d) the hill on the way back to our house is absolute murder when you are dragging two kids and a bunch of groceries up it. I had to call my mom and tell her that I wasn't coming to the gym b/c I was so worn out. Builds character, though.
Yesterday we spent the perfect day together. We worked and played outside all day. I didn't drive anywhere! I put a roast in the crockpot that morning, so dinner was ready whenever we wanted it. I planted some squash and zucchini. We played with the dog and rode bikes. By the end of the day, the kids were exhausted and covered in dirt. But Daddy came home and wanted to make ice cream so they dragged themselves outside to help him start it. (My mom gave us her old ice cream maker and it's worked out a bit like
this.) Then we gave them showers and put them to bed in fresh sheets, where they promptly passed out. It was the perfect day.
