Yesterday, little man got to pick what we did while his sister was in school. He said, "Hiking!" so hiking it was. We went out to the pocket wilderness. It was a beautiful morning. Unfortunately there was more water in the creek than I expected so I had to carry him across. Now I know that I need river shoes. My hadn't-been-out-of-shoes-all-winter feet weren't very good for the job. Nevertheless, we made it and enjoyed our walk. On the way back, he had to be carried. Important parenting rule: Never take your kid farther from the car than you can carry him. As we came back to the creek we saw thirty or forty butterflies landing on the wet sand to drink and flying all around us. It was amazing and beautiful.
Today, I was supposed to meet my mom at the Y and then take a yoga class. As soon as my front door closed I realized I didn't have my keys and then realized that I didn't have my phone. Smooth. For some reason all our neighbors were gone this afternoon, too. So, no phone, no way to get into the house. I decided not to freak out and make do with what I had. Off we went, walking to the Y. (I'm trying to get my kid-carrying badge.) Got there, called PA and told him to bring my car when he came to meet us later. After my class ended, I opened the door and there stood my knight in shining shorts, kids in tow, keys in hand. I thanked him for saving me from my idiocy and he said he wasn't saving me, just delaying the inevitable. ha!
