So much biking...
Today was the first 50 mile ride of the season. Given that it's only March, I feel pretty good about that. Sure, a lot of it was on the Springwater, so it was pretty flat, but at least I got the miles in. Plus, once I got past the Springwater and out into the rural areas east of Portland, it got even prettier. Lots of green growing things and pretty blooming cherry trees. My knees were definitely hurting by the end of the ride, but luckily it didn't feel like my patellar tendons, so I'm not too worried that I'm damaging those again. I'll just hit the ibuprofen and not do any more biking until Monday.
While I was out riding, I saw several signs for items like duck eggs (for $2 a dozen!) or meat being sold from the farm where it was raised. Having recently read the book The Omnivore's Dilemma, which is all about where we get our food from, seeing those signs made me wish that I had the time and money to go buy more of my food directly from the producers. I'd feel a whole lot better about what I was eating if I knew exactly where it came from and that the animals and animal products I was consuming came from beasties who had led reasonably nice lives. Plus, helping to keep local farmers in business would also make me feel pretty good.
