here is a stupid story I wrote..

Cigars with a Silver Lining

When Mr. Ridge approached his insurance firm, Jones & Smith, with his claim, the firm was infuriated. It quickly contacted his lawyer saying, “The Cuban cigars which Mr. Ridge had insured would not be paid for by Jones & Smith Insurance.” Mr. Ridge’s next step was to take his insurance company to court for the $500,000 which his rare cigars had cost him.

Mr. Ridge, his lawyer, and Jones & Smith Insurance met on the first day of the month. Mr. Ridge was surprised when Jones & Smith offered him his half of a million dollars. Jones & Smith in its public statement said, “We had agreed to pay Mr. Ridge for his cigars in the event of a fire. We now deem his claim acceptable considering they were lost in a fire.” Mr. Ridge was very happy with the result of his meeting and told the reporters he would by himself a car. Mr. Ridge then continued to tell them how the cigars were burned. “I smoked them one at a time”, he said. “Then I made a claim that they had been destroyed in ‘a series of small fires’” he continued, finishing his explanation. It appeared Mr. Ridge had got away with his trick, but the insurance company did not agree, for all things had not been settled yet.

Exactly one month after Mr. Ridge’s meeting with Jones & Smith, he was called into court under criminal charges. He showed up in his new sports car and seemed very happy until he was confronted with the charges. Jones & Smith was accusing Mr. Ridge for 50 counts of arson, one for each cigar, and insurance fraud. The judge felt that Mr. Ridge should pay 1.2 million dollars to Jones & Smith for damages and serve a 3 year jail sentence for his false insurance claim. Needless to say, Mr. Ridge no longer insures his cigars.
