Generally speaking, I'm not a big fan of memes, which tend to sprout like weeds across the net and are usually just as interesting. However, every once in a while I do come across one that I like. I snagged this one off of
feanor's journal.
My own musical tastes are fairly narrow. I have virtually no CDs, and a relatively small collection of mp3s, most of which is rock music (with movie soundtrack music coming in second). With one very notable exception, I tend to like individual songs, not artists, which is why I don't buy CDs.
1. Total amount of music files on your computer?
535 files, about 2.7 GB.
2. The last CD you bought
The Shadow original motion picture soundtrack.
3. The last song you listened to before reading this
"Follow You, Follow Me" by Genesis
4. Name 5 songs you listen to often or that mean a lot to you
I had to give this some thought, so that I wouldn't end up putting down five songs by the same group.
"Snowbound" by Genesis - Ethereal, haunting, magical, beautiful. This song perfectly captures the feeling I get when it snows (see previous entry), and I pretty much automatically put this on when that happens.
"Wish You Were Here" by Pink Floyd - Melancholy, understated, and wistful. Although I'd say Comfortably Numb is my favorite song by the band, this one is a little more resonant. The music and lyrics convey the mood and feel of this song perfectly.
"Everlong" by The Foo Fighters - I tend to particularly like songs that capture a certain intensity of emotion (which is probably why I don't like most pop music - most of it is either soulless or excessive). This song, about that intense feeling of new love, gets it just right.
"How Can You Mend a Broken Heart" by Al Green - Like the last song, Al Green's version of this song perfectly captures that intense feeling of sadness that comes when love ends.
"More Today Than Yesterday" - by Spiral Starecase - This one is completely out of sync with the rest of the songs on this list, which is probably why I'm including it here. Bouncy, fun, poppy and just plain happy, I almost inevitably end up snapping my fingers, tapping my feet, and singing along when I hear this song.
5. Who will you pass this stick to (3 people) and why?
No one specifically. It's free for the taking if you like, although I would be a little interested to see what
mamcdowell would put on his list, since he has very diverse musical tastes.
