Can't remember if I told the tale, so I copied the email I sent to my family the night of my unfortunate incident.
The more observant among you may notice the time at which I wrote this. I think the last time I was up at three in the morning was finishing up crafts on the few remaining days til Christmas. ;)
Unfortunately, I wasn't crafting at midnight, I was attempting to lift the cover off my upstairs bathroom toilet tank because the flusher is broken and I have to flush it manually in the tank. Somehow that heavy ceramic lid slipped, fell and BROKE MY TANK AND STOOL. I now have a flooded stairway and have mopped up most of the water in the bathroom.
Would've been much less damage if I had found the valve sooner, but that's moot at this point. When I picked up the lid to see what had happened, I heard the water pouring out and, being the brilliant, quick-minded thinker I am, reached behind there to see what was broken. I didn't see what I was looking for because I was distracted almost immediately by the flood of red, not clear water. Well, it wasn't red water either. When I stuck my hand back there I sliced it open.
So I threw all the towels I could grab onto the floor and stuck my hand under the faucet. The blood was pouring out so fast I stuck it under the water again, but when pulled it out again it was actually spurting in an arc about six inches up into the air.
At this point it seemed more prudent to call Christine and tell her I needed her and her dad to come over to help me stop one flood or the other, preferably before I passed out naked on the bathroom flooor. Naw, now I think about I wouldn't have done that, the floor was too wet to sleep comfortably. :-D
My girl arrived in a new york minute, by then I had found the shut off valve and managed to get my clothes on. She took a look at my hand and said, "Yep, you're gonna need stitches," and we headed for Regional, where they took great care of me.
Six stitches, a tetenus (sp) shot, some morphine and two hours later, I'm back home and ready to drop.
Gosh, I went a whole year between ER visits this time. *rolling my eyes*
Going to bed now, but wanted you to know what an adventurous evening it turned out to be and what a hero Christine can be in times of crisis.
Love to all,
diane
