Dancing off the blues

I am so, SO glad that I hauled myself out swing dancing tonight, even though my initial mood was a little crunchy. I left my apartment stuck good and fast in a morass of emotions. I couldn't seem to sort out what was a reflection of reality and what was just a reflection of the places that I'm still a bit broken--and I wasn't able to talk to anyone about it until I had.

After 3 hours of moving and sweating and forgetting, I'm not sure that I'm entirely sorted, but I'm a lot closer. I've managed to discard a lot of the negative thoughts that were circling my head.

What's left will wait on a good night's sleep.

It was a strange night for dancing, but it was oddly in sync with my own passions. My partners were all very good at making me feel either perfectly in tune or entirely graceless. The metaphor is so not lost on me.

And as seems to be par for the course whenever I dance lately, there's just one statement echoing through me at the end: Damn, I need to learn Lindy! I have East Coast pretty well down at this point, but I'm lost as soon as I move too far out of six-count. Also, Lindy has all the fun stuff.

Can't afford a class series this month, but once my finances are back on track, it's ON.

swing dancing, self-care
