...and I hear God on the phone
mmmm skyscraper, I love you.
Damn, Dubnobasswithmyheadman is one of my favorite Underworld albums. I am bound and determined to see them next time they tour. Don't care where I have to go. They're my favorite electronic band I haven't gotten to see yet (well, except the Gorillaz, but that's a different deal altogether).
Day is good, other than tearing the house apart trying to find this copy of my mortgage papers (like the third set) I have to send back to the mortgage company. No doubt it's somewhere around here.
For locals, I have a party in Holyoke (as out in the middle of nowhere, this guy throws awesome parties) on the 11th of November. Backchannel me for details.
I probably have already babbled about Tony D who wants me to do an underground electro-breaks party he wants me to do with Monstamind (one of the biggest breaks DJ crews out of Boston, my friend DJ DC - longtime partner in DJ crime/mayhem) and he's of course keeping all the info on the DL, since the underground parties around here (at least the ones I've been to that Monstamind had done or been affiliated with) were some of the best-kept secrets and were all great.
Knowing now that I'm not ready for a realtionship and feeling comfortable about that makes me feel like a weight has been lifted off my shoulder. I think today will be a day for African Drumming practice with my Djembe. If anyone knows how to tune one (mine is a Remo with tuning keys and not the original kind with the string net tuning), please get a mail to me.
I need to make some mixes before I leave. I think I need to make a house mix that would make
ambienceman sit up and pay attention - we didn't get a chance to tag on the tables, but we played some records and talked (I promise my new studio will have more than one chair, J). It was a thoroughly enjoyable visit, and he's a gentleman, a scholar (I loved the talks about Emotional Intelligence and now have to add that book you're reading to my list - greeeaaaat...more books, that's just what I need. ;) and all-around a very nice guy. Ladies, I know he *says* he's not looking, but this guy is a CATCH. Hint: if you get really into house music, he likes that a lot.
Thank you, J, for telling me that "there need to be more women into house music like you." It made me feel very good about being as serious about my art and music (and the way I make sure I know the history and philosophy), and also reminds me I need to mentor more girls when they're young to get them into loving music (especially house) and learning that all you have to do to be a DJ is have the desire, take your time collecting good records, and PRACTICE until you're good. Thank you Ed Lynch, for inspiring me with those words all those years ago. You know I talk to you with a little prayer before every gig, and you've been with me all along. I hope you're happy among the "little fluffy clouds" (that 'Arizona really does have...'). Damn, I miss you, too.
Hope everyone's day brings something happy. Or at least not a major disaster that can't be worked through.
