Today was a good day.

I didn't stay home.  I woke up at an ungodly (for me) hour (before 9 AM).  Didn't stay home to watch the inauguration.  Instead, I went skiing with Simone and we had an AWESOME time.  Simone hadn't gone snowboarding last year, so I was glad to finally coax her out this year.  We got started a little late, and ended up parking in the lower lot, which I thought might mean a ridiculously busy day, but it wasn't bad at all.  True, there were kids all over the place at Wachusett, but they mostly seemed to be in and around the lodge.

The weather - amazing.  Sunny to slightly overcast, it was warm (wow, almost to the freezing mark - well above single digits!) and there was nice snow to play on.  Simone totally played down her skill, and was completely ready to tackle any and all trails on the little mountain that could.  We had a great time talking and skiing, and Simone got me to push myself a little in terms of the speed I was traveling.  This worked better for me because I got to work on my technique with the new skis.  It felt really good, and it was just a blast.  Eventually we packed it in around 2:30 or so after getting in a decent amount of time on the snow for her first day out in over a year.

We headed back to Worcester afterward and then went to the Sole Proprietor for an early dinner after a little talking and stuff at the house (and of course some dog petting, they're soooo neglected).   They have a special where all the items on the bar menu are $5 between 4 and 6 (or 7?  I think 6). and we got there right around 4.  We ordered a bit of sushi (tuna rolls with fried sweet potatoes i think), Simone had the mussels (and I tried one - yum), I got the lobster bisque and a salad and we shared some of that hot seafood dip with the bread slices.  I've been there a bunch of times with insafemode  and I figured she'd dig it too.  We definitely considered it a good time, and it was under 30 bucks before the tip, with neither of us going home hungry by any stretch of the imagination.   So I rolled out the door and we headed back to my house.

I have to say that she's one of my friends who I don't see often enough because she's busy and we live far apart like that (another hazard of not living in the "big city" - I don't get to see awesome friends like this often enough).   Now that she's in school she'll be even busier for most of the next year, but we're going to try and get another ski trip in at the end of February.  Hopefully I can get a couple more friends in - the more the merrier.  I realized that this was the first time since I started skiing again that I've gone skiing with someone else.  It was different, but it was also a lot of fun.

(tangent: Fall Out Boy are at one of the Inaugural Balls and they totally SUCK.  The singer is horrible and the mix is for shit, too)

So, when Obama was being sworn in, I was somewhere on the mountain, celebrating my life with a friend, enjoying.  It makes me happy.  When we got back to the house, I turned on the TV and the graphic at the bottom said "President Obama" and I said to her, "damn, that looks so good."    She agreed.

I was supposed to call greenpurple , but I totally spaced it until after we went for dinner.  Since Simone was heading out after that to meet another friend, there wasn't really a lot of time hanging around.  I'll have to call you Thursday (tomorrow is the usual Wednesday chaos/business).  Hope you're settling in nicely to the new place.

What was up with John Roberts screwing up the beginning of the oath like that?  Can the man not read?  WTF!  What a tool.

So, I'm going to try to get some writing done before I trundle off to bed.  May not get that mix done tonight, but if not, then I'll do it later.  There's always time.
