Myself and
missy_manic did the geeky thing of watching Nightmare at 20,000 Feet whilst being on an airplane ourselves. And the brilliant Doctor Trek from Kelvington.com. The holiday gave me some time to read and I finished the autobiography of musician and actor Gary Kemp. I hung around stage doors back in the early 00's to get his autograph and so I read it with interest having watched a lot of his acting on screen and on stage, and of course Spandau Ballet :) It's a nice insight into what was (unless you were in it) to outsiders an odd kind of music and fashion era of 'Blitz Kids' or 'New Romantic' and this book gives a nice insight into its place alongside that which came before it such as Punk, and after it Acid House. And there is some nice insight into Gary's feelings of his working class background, when the music he wrote made him middle class. And its so nice that a band who really ended up being really very nasty to each other were able with the help of time to get back together. I loved the gig last year the 02 :) And then, the book also discusses his family and hearbreaking loss of his parents within days of each other. All in all a good read.
I didn't really buy anything geeky, was slightly tempted by a Dylan Dog cigarette lighter but since I don't smoke... instead my birthday present from my parents was some t-shirts with the comic book character Diabolik which I first learnt about at the
bfi course I did seeing as I knew I would not find them here in the UK.
Talking of Dylan Dog, I hope there is a trailer release soon for Brandon Routh's starring role in Dead of Night. I have seen the teaser trailer for Edgar's Scott Pilgrim (very impressive stylistically) and spotted his blonde haired character in it :) Interestingly there is a trailer online for a movie with no release date so far as I know - Unthinkable - which also stars Michael Sheen - yay! - with a bit of skin on show here! It surprised me - a tad different to playing Tony Blair :P (
redderz - are you reading this :P ):

As for TV... second episode of Doctor Who I liked but not as much as the first. Whales in space - sorry the star whale - made me think of Star Trek IV The episode should have been called There Be Whales On Board ;) Also Ashes To Ashes very dark with Shaz's storyline in this ep but loved the Billy Joel Uptown Girl spoof for the comedy :)
