I have been a busy consumer. I upgraded my iMac to the new Leopard operating system (and Leopard rocks). And while I was at it I bought iLife '08; a suite of creative software, which I purchased mainly for the GarageBand upgrades. GB is a quite powerful but more importantly fun(!) 24-bit music recording program.
I also bought USB portable backup thumb H.Drives, a crock-pot, a space-age looking toaster, and a fancy new electric shaver too. And music incl. the Requiem For A Dream soundtrack because I can't find mine-and it's still the most beautiful score ever composed. /ClintMansellFanboy
Also the new Einstürzende Neubauten album on double vinyl.
I'm sure there's been more, whatever. Me buying stuff definitely isn't weird, but I've felt very domestic lately and that kind of... is. I cleaned my room like mad yesterday. I have a floor! I narrowly escaped buying a new digital camera even though I own like, 3 of them? It's probably the weather. It's cold out and that makes me want to bunker down and hermit even more than usual.
Speaking of bunkering down, on eBay I won this:
Excellent condition Civil Defense book from November 1966 - Personal and Family Survival.
6" x 9" paperback guide, 127 pages. Creepy look at the cold war years - chapters include
Modern Weapons & Radioactive Fallout, Public Fallout Shelters, Fallout protection at home,
Survival on the Farm, and others. Shows examples of home fallout shelters and improvised shelters
as well. Note the picture showing the happy little family crammed into an 8' box under a pile of dirt!
Also included is a crisp new looking letter from A. Ross Eckler, director of the Bureau of the
Census thanking the recipient for participating in the Home Fallout Protection Survey.
Great old Cold War piece in surprisingly good condition.
Neat!?
Back to work tonight, and I'm the boss again all this rotation. I don't think I'm going to sleep much today. Hopefully I catch a nap later but meanwhile I don't really know what to do with myself?
