You Never Know Until You Try

Hot damn son, yet another IHOP night. Shit never gets old. In any case!

I had someone comment the other day (I think it was anothervillain) on how I seldom discuss things like my life and start debates and arguments on politics and other things instead. To that I say, hell, why not? I don't mind having that sort of stuff on my journal. The conflict can be annoying every once in awhile (the Canadian Conflict was the latest outbreak of annoyance); however, I always strive to write about things that stimulate people, make them think, and force them into a response because they have something to say on the topic. So, with that said...

...here's to going out on a limb with this post. Follow me on this one, if you will.

After leaving the (hallowed, haha) halls of Fenwick, I traversed to Salem State College with hopes of a degree in Criminal Justice and a position in the Massachusetts State Police. After one year, I must categorically state that I am one year closer to my dream, and that nothing will get in the way of my goals. Nothing.

Others, however, have not enjoyed the combination of luck and success in the past year. Failure is inevitable everywhere, and for many different reasons (some not totally within your grasp). It is with great honor that I dedicate this post to those who, in their own eyes, fell short of the mark after this past year.

Large are the winnings, and large are the defeats. All of us will see both throughout the course of our lives, and all should be disinclined to acquiesce to the proposal of failure [means "no" :)]. Giving in to defeat, whether your fault or fate's, is giving up on your dreams of success and a happy life. Not everyone shares the same success in life, nor does anyone share the same failure. In order to succeed, one must fail, and the measure of failure is never known until it is in the past.

So buck up. Face the challenge. Because you'll never know how strong and powerful you are until you try. Everyone has your back, myself included. Whenever you feel yourself slip; whenever you feel your hands tire from the long climb up; whenever you feel self-doubt: rest assure, for when you look behind you, your friends will be right there ready and willing to give you that extra push you need to cross the finish line.

It never ends. And the dedication of your friends shouldn't either. They share in your pain; but they also share in your success. So get out there and get it done; if not for yourself, but for your friends. You'll be disappointing many more than just yourself if you never try. Just because things didn't go as planned doesn't mean it's the end. Sometimes, a simple change of focus is required. I, and everyone else, have faith in you. Now go show us what you're made of.
