Oyster is usually fine it's just I *always* have some problem setting it up, which is almost always because I request a pickup from Greenwich. It's been a while since my last travelcard purchase and I thought they might have fixed things by now, especially given they put in shiny new Oystercard readers only a few months ago.
Yeah, I used to do everything via the ticket machines but I thought I'd give the online method a try (which rarely works). Bizarrly when I swiped my Oystercard just now to get a travelcard it asked if I would like to continue from the end date of the travelcard that never went through.
if I could I would - but my ticket is only issued on oyster, there's no paper equivalent. this also pisses me off.
there's a massive security problem with carrying an oyster card. If you get mugged and/or it's stolen, someone can use it to find out where you've been, and can them predict where you'll be and when. What time do you take what bus to work etc.
and a friend once showed me how it's possible to use one to get someone's address if they've registered the card online. Without needing to know their password or anything.
So theoretically, if someome stole my handbag they'd have both my address, and my housekeys. this is a problem. And it worries me.
Minor point - I think it only shows the detailed journeys you take on PAYG and not with any travelcards. Of course, this is only helpful if you have a travelcard.
