Last Monday, I went across to Manchester to be with my Dad and brother and sister while we buried Mum's ashes. She had a inherited a bit of her Great Grandad's plot in Eccles Cemetery, and they had dug a nice, neat hole about eighteen inches square to put the casket in. We all threw in some dirt and said our final, final goodbyes. It was surprisingly emotional, a five minute memory that will stay with me for ever. Mostly because of my sister in law, Paula's face when she was offered the box of dirt. Not quite a wrinkling of the nose, but as close as made no difference. If I hadn't been so sad, I would have laughed.

So anyway, I set off to drive to my sister's in Wetherby at 6.30am, and got there at about 7.45. We set out at 8.00am and arrived at Manchester at 10.00am, to find that we were meeting Keith and Paula at the cemetery at 10.45. Remember, I had to set out at that ungodly hour because Paula needed to get back home in the early afternoon because she had things to do that couldn't wait two or three hours. Yeah. Well, as I said, the service only lasted five minutes, so we went back to Dad's apartment and then went out for lunch at midday. THEN we went back to Dad's - where Paula and Keith stayed until 3 O'CLOCK IN THE AFTERNOON!!!!! Jacq and I were pretty ticked off at that, but didn't want to spoil Dad's day, so we just did a character assassination in the car on the way back to Wetherby, which enabled us to vent our spleen satisfactorily and cheered us up considerably.

I didn't get home until about 6.30pm - so it was a 12 hour day for a five minute ceremony. I don't begrudge it to my Mum or my Dad, but I sure as eggs begrudge it to Paula!!

Anyways, as Forrest Gump always said, "that's all I'm going to say about that!"

I played catch up at work all week, worked my little (ok, extra large) butt off and got caught up on Friday afternoon. I did the shopping on Saturday, made Macaroni cheese for dinner and was up all night Saturday hurling into the toilet. Apparently there is a sickness bug going round. I had to take Monday off work (need to be vomit-free for 48 hours when you work with children), so I am playing catch up AGAIN. My tummy is still not right, but much better than it was. I suspect you could have gone a lifetime without knowing all those details. Sorry.

Found out on Monday evening that a former boyfriend of Grace's who went off to Uni in Glamorgan in September actually committed suicide last week. We are completely horrified. Grace is devastated. We don't know any details, except that the funeral is on Tuesday.

On a happier (and completely non-related) note, I am getting very good with my contact lenses! The first day of wearing them I almost panicked when I couldn't get them out, but persevered (busting a blood vessel in my left eye for my pains) and now it's easy peasy. So there you go. You actually CAN teach an old dog new tricks.

funeral, dad, jacq, grace, keith, contact lenses, mum, paula
