CChallenge #9
In your own space, list your Fandom Wrap categories.
What are your top five fandoms for 2021 based on the amount of time you interacted with them?
1. Harry Potter - I don’t write for the fandom very often, but I lurk on Keira Marcos’ site a lot and read the hell out of basically everything HP she’s ever written
2. Star Wars - Keira again… go read Gra’tua. It’s AMAZING
3. MCU - I write a lot of MCU (specifically Captain America) but read very little of it anymore
4. NCIS - again, I write a lot but read very little, mostly the mothership
5. Star Trek - wrote my Nano project last year in this fandom
What are your top fandom spaces in terms of time spent? (AO3, Twitter, Tumblr, Reddit, Dreamwidth, and others)
1. Rough Trade (attempted all three challenges for 2021, completed one /facepalm/)
2. AO3 - where all my fic lives
3. Dreamwidth - where I’ll flit in and out based on mood and bandwidth
4. Discord - there are two communities (Just Write and Crossroads) that I belong to… don’t spend too much time there, but the folks in those communities are great and it’s nice to have people to talk fandom with
What are the top five ways you interacted in these fandoms? (Reading fanfic, writing, commenting, watching videos, chatting with friends, making art, or anything else you can think of).
1. Reading - I’ll read almost anything, even in fandoms I don’t normally read, particularly if someone’s recommended it to me
2. Writing - typical yearly output for me is 200k+ words in a year, though last year was a little thin for reasons
3. Art - I do all my own art for RT, and I’ve started doing it for some of the other stories I post too
4. Videos - I try not to hit up YouTube very often because it’s a colossal time-suck, but every once in a while, I’ll get sucked in… plus, I’ll watch the actual shows or movies when I’m looking for details or just to pass the time
5. Discord - see above
What are the top things you did to contribute to fandom in terms of time? Did you write? Comment? Send positive energy into the universe? Create art?
1. Write
2. Comment - I always try to leave kudos when I’ve enjoyed a story, but I do try to leave a comment if the story resonated or was particularly funny or entertaining… it’s what others did for me, so I’m paying it forward
3. Create Art - albeit art for my own stories, but I like to think that it enhances the reader experience, especially when I'm using original characters; it's helpful for the reader to see the actor I've cast
What things did you create that took the most time?
1. Like the Air Before a Storm - written in thirty days (which is fast for me but that's the challenge on RT... since I finished it, I’m pretty pleased)
2. Art for Like the Air Before a Storm - I spent countless hours working on the art for this story… I kept changing my mind on the images I wanted to use, and then I’d change my mind on the layout… it was ridiculous
3. Year-End post for 2021 - I always do a wrap-up post for the year, and this year I started early (right after Christmas) instead of waiting until New Year’s Eve to write it like I usually do… and just as you’d expect, it just kept growing… guess I had a lot to say?
