(Why am I doing this? I'm not even a Spirit Medium. And how is sitting on a block of ice while freezing water is poured on you supposed to help you commune with a spirit anyway? Okay, Phoenix, calm down. Just get through it for Maya and Pearls. Think warm thoughts. You're not sitting on a block of ice at the top of a mountain, you're on a nice, ( Read more... )

"There isn't a real revolution," Kyouya said, frowning. "In fact, none of the questions appear to have any bearing on reality whatsoever."

He extended a hand, and his expression changed to a friendly smile. "Kyouya Ootori. Where do you practice, Mr. Wright?"

"...Oh." Phoenix said, clearly embarrassed.

"Uh, I have a small firm in Los Angeles. Wright & Co. Law Offices."

(Don't ask who "Co" is, please.)

"I can't imagine why they ask, but they do every time," he said, deliberately ignoring Phoenix's embarrassment.

"How interesting," he replied conversationally. He hadn't ever heard of Wright & Co, but it didn't hurt to know about it. "I've known a few lawyers in Los Angeles, but I'm afraid I'm not altogether familiar with the area. Would you mind if I asked who the 'Co' would be?"

((I'm really sorry! XD Tell me if you'd rather I change it))

(Oh, great.)

"Co. is...my office manager. It's...a very small firm."

"Ah, I see," Kyouya said. If he noticed his question causing any awkwardness, it wasn't obvious. "I've heard legal business is much more efficient that way when you're operating on a local scale. What manner of law do you practice?"

"I'm a Defense Attorney," Phoenix answered. "See my badge?" he showed off the small badge pinned to his lapel. He was able to show it off in such a way that it gleamed proudly in the sunlight.

Kyouya hadn't been aware American attorneys wore badges, but he admired it nonetheless. He had actually heard Phoenix mention that he was a defense attorney over the megaphone, but he didn't correct him there. "Criminal or civil defense?" he asked instead.

"Criminal," Phoenix said. "I've, uh, only been practicing for about three years, though."

"It sounds like a very exciting line of work," he answered. He'd probably go into medicine and business, but law had always interested him in some respects; the idea of a profession where what was true wasn't nearly as important as how well you could convince people something was true intrigued him, and he was certain he would be able to get off even the guiltiest client if he wanted to. "I'm sure you meet quite a few very interesting clients."

Phoenix grinned sheepishly. "I really do."
