LJ doesn't allow javascript...
I didn't really want to do it in LJ, and I didn't think it was really possible to do anyway... but I figured I'd just ask an S2 expert just in case. When I mention this in
as_massive_tool (where I often put HTML/Java pointers), I was going to point out that this code isn't LJ compatible.
Suggestions on how to make it more awesome...
That's just one of the two examples I whipped up for demonstrating how the code works. I plan to make some much more complex Colorforms-esque screens in the future; some for Richard to play with (combining some of his favorite characters, like Thomas and Blue, with GIFs of him, Q, and I) and some for LJ (a more complex Allah Sulu one, and a Murgatroid one). Naturally, a Shingen/SB668 one would also work; you'd even be able to use the same characters in more than one of those. (And I was just thinking of that Flash animation with Diz, Evil Storvik, and Blue Bastard as dancing Christmas elves the other day…)
Oh, if you go back, you'll see that I tried adding something else - word balloons that you can actually type text into, using form/textarea code - but for some reason, that works in IE but not Firefox. Still needs work.
You need to make parts of the background into a foreground so that you could put people behind the bar (maybe with a toggle button to do it, or certain sections that are for behind the bar, and others for in front of it?) or to be able to put them into the booth in the foreground.
That all depends upon the order in which you define the images. Since I defined Allah Sulu first in the example, it's "underneath" the vodka bottle if you move then on top of him. If you wanted to be able to move people into a booth, you'd just have to define the booth image after the people images so that it would be on top.
Also, you need Diz, Storvik and others to put in. Perhaps I could make some of the other "wildlife" from 668 and Shingen, you could come up with those from the Murgatroid, and we could make a quick and dirty way to illustrate scenes from the game?
For the Murg, I could just use screenshots from the interior of the Defiant for the background, and create all of the characters in one of the many avatar creator sites. Obviously, I'd have to provide the user with multiple copies of Khan. You could do the same for your characters (and if we used the same avatar creator, we could easily mix and match the characters), but I'm not sure where you'd get your backgrounds. Just for fun, you could grab at least one from the actual Milliways in the BBC Hitchhiker miniseries.
Although I've been editing these things in the Massive Tool, my wife thinks that I should make a small standalone program just for n00bs that creates screens like this for them to play with, which would allow them to specify the background and as many movable pieces as they'd like (images, blocks of text, and other code) and put it all together for them without them having to touch any actual code themselves.
