I absolutely love knitting& I have a bunch of needles of different sizes and a lot of yarn but I'm sick of making scarfs. I really want to make a hat or sweater but I have no idea how to read patterns. Does anyone know how or an easy to figure out site, to learn?  I really really really want to learn how to read them!

I updated a bunch of the DeviantArt tutorial lists (jewelry got a whole bunch of updates; origami, polymer clay, and hair got a couple too) and figured it was time to post on cross stitch, knitting, and crochet. Okay, I have an old knitted blanket that I want to turn into a dress. However, I'm not sure how to keep the fabric from coming unraveled after it's sewn. I could hem it, but will that hold something as bulky as knitwear? I could also try to refinish the hems via knitting but I have no idea where to begin learning how to do that. im knitting a scarf for a friend, and he wants me to add a polar bear on it. any suggestions? im thinking maybe making one out of felt? any ideas or maybe a template to help ?

okay, so I've been wanting to learn how to knit. I bought a kit from hobby lobby, teach yourself to knit, but the diagrams were really dark black and white, and instructions were hard to follow. I just thought I'd share a little trick: Since I only have one pair of knitting needles, and a bad habit of starting a new project before finishing the other, I've discovered that I can use drinking straws [or anything else that's round] to slip my work onto, use the needles for something else, then slip the old stitches back on when I'm ready to ( Read more... )
