Can you believe it! A whole Monday without one drop of drama! Well, unless you count my lunch break. On my lunch break, Keri (roomie) came to Bentonville for lunch, and only having a limited amount of time, we settled on Arby's. About halfway through our lunch we noticed a bunch of policemen in flak jackets and shotguns across the street at the Subway. It was probably the most excitement Bentonville's seen in years. Trust me, I read the police reports in The Benton County Daily Record. My favorite: A caller who wishes to remain anonymous stated that someone broke into his house, stole the pistol under his bed, and replaced it with two beer bottles. Yes, yes, Dixi needs to find something else to do on her breaks, but I just can't help myself.
I had to do an exercise recently in my Franklin Covey Focus class where we had to introduce ourselves in 1995 and in 2015. It was quite interesting, and it got me thinking about some things. Where do I see myself? Did I meet my expectations? I guess that's totally what it was supposed to do but anyways, here are my introductions.
1995: "I'm Dixi. I'm a sophomore at Murfreesboro High School. I'm in the Band, FCCLA (then it was FHA), FBLA, Science Club, Spanish Club, Yearbook Staff, Art Club, and Peer Leaders. I love to shop, hang out with my friends, and write short stories. When I graduate from the University of Arkansas, I'd like to get involved with the community and get into local government where I could eventually become a Senator and maybe even President of the United States. Either that or begin working at a local newspaper and later be the fashion editor for Vogue Magazine. In ten years (By age 25), I'd like to be married, have two beautiful children, and be a Junior Leaguer." Goodness, kittens! I don't know a woman alive who could live up to that by age 25. Well, maybe Chelsea Clinton, but she has a pretty darn good jump start.
2005: "I'm Dixi. I'm a Financial Analyst at Wal-Mart.com. I am a patron of the Walton Arts Center, where you can usually find me if the doors are open. I still love to shop, hang out with my friends, and write short stories. I am working on my first novel right now. I'd love to get involved with the Susan G. Komen Foundation and Seven Hills (homeless shelter). In ten years (By age 35), I'd like to marry the love of my life and have a child (at least one, maybe two). I'd kind of like to join a country club, so my daughter can be a debutante. I want to have written several best sellers and spend summers at my house in Malibu (except for the two weeks in the Hamptons)." What do you think? Can I do it?
2015: "I'm Dixi , but the rest of the world knows me as Jackson Rose Travis (pen name). I am atop the New York Times Best Sellers' List for the 206th week in a row. I also have begun my own clothing line where I employ both Jay McCarroll and Austin Scarlett. My adviser is Tom Ford. I still love to shop, hang out with my friends (now I get to hang out with my daughter Emma and the love of my life who quite possibly may be named Shaun), and write short stories. My next book will be out in November. It's a book of short stories, and my first book of nothing but short stories." What a charmed life!
I guess the main thing I learned about myself during this exercise is that it doesn't really matter what happens in the next ten years. When I stop looking at things like the way they should be, I'll find that I really do have everything I need.
