The art of loving

I have to read The Art Of Loving by Erich Fromm. Did you ever think I'd agree to something so cheesy?? I'm reading the last chapter first and it actually has some good insight. This guy really talks about loving like it is an art and says to master this art (or any art, for that matter) you need 3 things: discipline, patience, and concentration. I ( Read more... )

People who give up on life and keep living... that's my interpretation of a dead soul.

Though, that's all it'll be; interpretations. The soul itself has no intrinsic meaning; only symbolic meaning. That is to say that a soul doesn't exist in tangible space. As with most things of this sort, it'll forever be open to interpretation.

A psychic told me once that I'm an angel. I knew that already.

I was recommended this book because I don't love people (or myself). Not because people don't love me. And I was really hesitant, because the title of the book is just bullshit to me. MASTER THE ART OF LOVING. I was like, whatever. But the last chapter had some good points. I still don't want to read the previous chapters though, in fear the rest of the book may ruin it for me.

If that's what you take from the excerpt that Mysh posted, then I'd have to agree with him... especially if he lives in america.

Though I'm taking the statements completely out of context. I'm thinking of them in a more general way instead of the art of loving as he puts it.

As I said to Mysh, yea most definitely the soul is different for everyone. It all just depends...

The excerpts are more meaningful/useful taken out of context, in my opinion.
