If I wrote out everyone my characters are giving presents too, I would inevitably forget people.

Sod that.

If your character:

1. Lives with one of mine.
2. Is friends with one of mine.
3. Threads off mine semi-regularly.
4. has bonded through ... either animosity or adversity. Or mistletoe i'm easy.
