[this would be the face of a rather...skeptical young woman staring into the book. in fact she has a small frown on her face as she flips through some of the previous pages]

What kind of book is this? I thought it would help yield some answers but instead-

[have some new feather commentary.]Why is it making these strange ( Read more... )

You have more time than you're aware of. You're a prisoner here, just like the rest.

And it isn't a joke. The book is a means of communication between the residents.

Can you elaborate on what you said?

I'll assume you mean the former?

A prisoner, brought here for the uses and purposes of a group called the Malnosso, though what their ultimate goal is I don't know. You cannot leave, and if you are called upon to serve in their army, you have no choice but to comply. There are also experiments which will be performed, which can have any number of effects on you and any you might know who are also here.

It's not unlike being a plaything, really.

[her frown deepens with each new piece of information.]

Experiments performed on people? You must be joking-human lives aren't meant to be used as just-[borrowing his word...sort of.]-mere toys!

If this is true, then perhaps it's a good thing I arrived after all. I assume there are groups trying to fight against them?

Hardly. Unless such a matter is one worthy of making light of, where you're from?

Surprisingly, no. Most seem content to stay within their gilded cage, given the power of the Malnosso. It is true that these people are capable of great things. Even the strongest here have found themselves restrained, their abilities limited on arrival. No doubt you'll find yourself in a similar predicament, should your abilities exceed those of a typical mortal.

"Typical mortal"? Are you suggesting that there are other types of beings?

I am. Is that so difficult to believe?

If you mean sentient beings that are neither monsters or of a different race, then yes.

[Homura starts to sound fairly amused as he continues.] And what constitutes a "monster" or a "different race," in your opinion? It'd be good to know which I qualify as, I think.

[she's silent if only to wonder upon his words.]

Monsters are rogue, wild creatures that will attack humans freely. Aggressive animals, you could say. As for race, where I'm from there are not only humans, but also Krityans. I'm not too familiar with them, but they're human-like in appearance.

Well, take away the part where the other races are confined to human-like appearances, and you aren't far off. Talking cats seem to be popular here, from what I've seen.

You'll have to suspend your disbelief here, I'm afraid, at least to a certain extent. Has anyone explained to you about the wings on your back, or the concept of different worlds?

Talking cats...? [just shaking her head.]

As for the wings and the different worlds, only vaguely. If you have any explanation, I'd appreciate it.

You don't have to take my word for it, as far as talking cats go.

None beyond what you've likely already read or heard, especially if you've been pointed to the guide. I will reiterate any warnings you've received in regards to the wings, however. Removing feathers causes sickness and pain, while removal of the wings themselves in said to cause death.

Although even death itself is supposedly subverted here.

Yes, I've heard about that about the wings.

But what do you mean by that? About death?

For one, even those who have died can be brought here, alive. And in addition, it seems that those who do die while here are brought back as well, although there is said to be a penalty involved in that instance.

So even a life could be considered as a trivial thing. [she obviously disapproves of such a thing.]

Is there anything else I should know?
