Feliz Cinco de Mayo

Today, in honour of the holiday, I have briefly sported a Lucha Libre máscara, which let me tell you is very claustrophobic and has no respect for the wearer's peripheral vision. But still very cool.

I think we're moving into the start of the hayfever season. I feel... itchy. Woe.

The cabinet has been reshuffled, which is interesting. Especially since the Grauniad had seemed so sure this morning that Prescott was to go completely. I don't know a tremendous amount about Margaret Beckett and what she stands for, but well done to her for being the highest-ranking, non-insane woman in British politics to date.

I learned recently that a dog was awarded the rank of Sergeant in WW1, and am for some reason completely delighted by this.

And Lisa Jardine is out and about on the BBC website.

Also, I want to say how much I loved School Reunion. Both the sci-fi and the drama sides of it were excellent, and made me a very happy woman indeed. Elisabeth Sladen and Tony Head were perfect in their different ways, as was K-9 in his. The neatness of Sarah-Jane trading her last tangible connection to the Doctor for a proper goodbye was very beautifully judged, and there was some very nice character work all round. And the swimming pool show down? Oh, my. I think this might be one of my favourite episodes of the RTD era so far, and I applaud him, Toby Whithouse and James Hawes for it.

*applauds*

There was a nice Torchwood ref as well, which makes me wonder if it might be this season's Bad Wolf. I kind of hope so, as the Arc of Boe doesn't bear thinking about, at least if the way it was shoehorned into New Earth is anything to go by.

Just a couple of tiny quibbles though. We're still, still on Earth, and considering how hard the Krillitanes were, they were pretty easy to defeat. I'm more than prepared to let this go this time, but so far this series the Doctor has had everything he needed to beat the bad guys on hand - a medicine supply and distribution system, a purpose built laser gun, and now this. "So there were these big, bad bat things, right? They ate people and liked killing and widows and probably killing widows, but luckily they'd brought this violently corrosive oil with them that was entirely harmless to everyone else..." Like I say, School Reunion gets a free pass for being marvelous, but I'd really like this not to turn into the running device it could be shaping up to be.
Hmmmm. I want a DT icon. Preferably saying 'Corectemundo'. Yes.
