Katz wasn't too far behind, hiding deep in the shadows. He had his weapons in his D-reader and his partner wasn't far behind. This would work out perfectly if everything went well. He was interested into finally finding out the truth about this cult. What were they doing and who was leading it? Perhaps he could gain something out of this. It was really only a matter of time till they took the bait. Paper, on the outside, seemed defenseless. The perfect prey. But in truth she was dangerous and deadly. A perfect combination when one thought about it.

Katz and Paper weren't the only ones investigating things. Nearby, but in a different part of the city, Manami and Gabumon were undertaking their own patrol.

And more still lurking in the shadows a fedora clad Tailmon and the Plotmon known as Isha were hiding in a nearby alley watching Paper as well.

"You shouldn't be here."

"Then make me leave."

"..."

Isha's excuse for being there was that she had been kidnapped by the cult once before. But the truth was she was curious as to why The Spiritmon always seemed to be lurking in the shadows watching over her. Was he some crazy stalker? Did he have a crush on her? He wsa far too old to interest her in that way, and even if he wasn't she preferred girls anyway.

"Movement." He hissed drawing her attention back to the ground.

Paper had been pacing along at a steady slow stroll but stopped when she came upon...of all things a burger.

It was on a plate in the middle of the street, steaming hot.

"Well this is obviously a trap." She muttered stretching her hand down to pick up the sandwich and examine it. "Who just leaves a burger in the middle of the street?" She looked around scanning the shadows for whoever had left it for her.

She sighed "I want a bonus for this." She muttered and took a bite out of the burger. She chewed it thoughtfully and smiled pleasantly. It was delicious and light.

Then the world began to spin and she hit the ground.

Well that was rather foolish of her. But he would agree to a bonus once it was all said and done. For right now though, she was out. Which meant that her would-be kidnappers would be close behind. Which worked for him. The sooner they came, the sooner they could follow to the fools's hiding place. He stayed hidden. He wouldn't let her die and he was sure that burger hadn't been poisoned. Can't sacrifice someone if they are already dead.

She lay still and alone for a full five minutes...and then quick as a flash a group of seven short robed figures shot into the street and gathered her up binding her in plastic zip ties before carrying her into an alley as fast as they could.

According to plan. And Katz will follow. He isn't about to let them get away so easily. But he'll keep back a ways. Can't let them know he's following just yet. He doesn't want the gatherers. He wants the entire hive.

Manami and Gabumon pressed on in the same way, approaching from a different direction than Katz. Thankfully, Gabumon's senses meant they would have an easy chance tailing them even if they lost sight.

The path was a twisting and winding one through back alleys and deserted streets until finally the came to an abandoned Chinese restaurant letting themselves in the back door as if they did it all the time.

The Spiritmon seemed to appear from no where and waited by the door letting them get far enough ahead before he would enter. A moment after he landed a clumsy looking Plotmon skittered up behind her.

So this was the lair of the cult? Not much to look at. It could have been just an outpost. But he was hoping that wasn't the case. Katz waited to enter, sliding in the back, his D-Reader dialed to one of his two weapons. This place was old and from the looks of it, flammable. Perfect for what he had in store.

Manami and Gabumon saw them go in, and approached from the west side of the building, where there was a window. Arming her weapon, she and Gabumon both looked into the nearest window, hoping to see what was going on within.

Paper groaned feeling a hangover like throbbing in her skull.

The world began to fade into view, fuzzy and wobbly.

"You have been chosen." A voice purred in her ear. She grunted and tugged on her wrists only to find she couldn't move them. It would be child's play for her to slip her bonds but she waited for the right moment.

A heavy thud signaled someone very large entering the room.

"You will be lead through the portal out of this world and into the next. Blessed you are and in time we will all be so lucky."

She dared to open an eye and felt her blood run cold. A brightly glowing mark had been etched into the ground under her in the shape of an eye...

And grinning down at her was a horrible beast of a man. Massive and fat his body rippled with each step.

His soulless eyes burned in the darkness.

Forms surrounded them, Digimon with broken manic smiles, chanting in an odd language. One long since forgotten.

And slowly this was all making some sense. So this monster was part of this cult. And it held a portal out of this world? Perhaps. Or like most cults they simply but their beliefs in that which was not true. Either way, he was not going to allow Paper to be sent through some portal, but for now he'd wait a bit longer. There were others here and he wanted to see how this played out. So he stayed in his hiding spot and watched.

This was bad. This was very very bad. Manami had read the file for this Gluttony individual, and she knew just how dangerous he was.

But she couldn't just sit by while Paper was in danger.

She would remain hidden and wait for backup. Meanwhile...
