Truth be told, Ash had never been in charge of the barbecue at home.
As such, even though he was keeping up a heated argument with Sadie over the merits of Australia Day, he was also eying her barbeque rather anxiously, ready to pounce the moment something looked like it was going to burn beyond edible recognition. He was also occasionally poking at some cobs of corn Gomamon had dumped on the grill.
"New Zealand doesn't need a special 'New Zealand Day' to reassure ourselves that we're awesome--"
"You have Racial Tension Day, Sadie! What the hell kind of holiday is--"
"Okay, so the retards in government try to politicise Waitangi Day, not the nation's fault! It's meant to be a day of becoming one people--"

Meanwhile, Gomamon and Paikea were making decorations for Lalamon to hang up around the area. Or, at least, Gomamon was; Paikea was, unfortunately, facing a slight genetic obstacle.
