An update about the things I entered in the county fair. I took 1st place in Open Class Jewelry, 2nd place in Open Class Jellies (cherry jelly), 2nd in Open Class Clothing Construction Dresses (with my Elizabeth Swann Ballgown costume), and 3rd place in Open Class Clothing Construction Shirts (for the extra Hawaiian shirt I ended up making too large for Lee). I kind of knew I would sweep in Jewelry.... I entered 9 pieces and was only allowed to take one place but it was the blue ribbbon. Good to know my strengths. I was surprised and pleased that the cherry jelly placed 2nd.... until I picked up everything from the fair grounds today and realized something.... the judges don't judge based on taste at all! They base their judgements and placings by appearance in the jar. Mind you, you can learn alot about someone's canning skills by looking at the jar of whatever... but I always thought the point of prize winning canned foods was the taste. Huh. Learned someting new... next year pick better looking jars. I knew the judges would mark me off in the seams on my clothing construction stuff but it was a last minute idea to enter things in those catergories so.... no worries. Now knowing what they look for.... I can enter more things next year... and know what to watch.
I got lots of participation ribbons for extra jewelry pieces and some jams and soft spread I entered.
