my latest obsession

I am currently obsessed with the early 90s club kid sensation. I only participated in the tail end of it, in SF with a gothic slant. I saw Party Monster the movie recently. (Macauley Culkin was horrible - he will always just be that kid who screams in Home Alone.) However, I loved the costumes! They were better QUALITY costumes than many of us could have ever come up on our own pittance - realize I'm only talking about QUALITY here, the creative factor was completely stolen from the original kids. It made me miss those carefree days when I didn't care what anyone thought of how I dressed at work or anywhere. Now I still have the freedom to whatever I want at night, but at work I have to reel it in. God, I miss working in a creative environment. In some ways I miss the drugs, but in other ways I really don't - especially the "friends" you make over those transactions and the rituals of consuming them. I was intrigued by this movement actually being documented, even if it was because of a kinder-club kid killing his dealer. See if you can spot Marilyn Manson in this flick if you rent it. A good role for him!

An aside: Mind you, when you first listen to Michael Alig's rants on videotape in prison, you think, "Oh how sad, this guy killed his drug dealer out of self-defense!" And at first he sounds sane in the interview, but then he goes off on a tangent and you're thinking "Wait a minute, he is seriously sick in the head." Now I can understand knocking out a drug dealer, that everyone owes money to, that is attacking your friend, but pouring Drano into their body after they were knocked out? That's fucked up! You stop at the point of knocking him out and throw him out on the curb, you DO NOT proceed to toxicate them and duct tape their mouth shut and strip them and put them in your tub, chop their LEGS OFF, and send them down the river in a BOX!! That guy gets out of jail in 2006!!

I rented Party Monster - the Shockumentary - it was really interesting and great to see all the footage from that time in NYC. The very best part of the documentary was the commentary by James St. James. A friend of Michael's who wrote the book "Disco Bloodbath" about the whole ordeal. He is fucking HILARIOUS!! It is the kind of Mystery Science Theater that I'm into. Watching a documentary while a queen is bitching about everybody that's on the screen the whole time and giving you the dish. I have started to use a few of the favorite phrases in my own lexicon. I would LOVE to be a friend of James! I guess he's living in LA these days...

More related movies: Blood Feast - the gorey movie that inspired many of Michael's parties and eventually Angel's murder. "Legs Cut Off!" is the big headline of a newspaper in the movie and something Michael included on the flyers for his parties and what he did to Angel.
American Fabulous is the documentary style rantings of Jeffery Strouth, a middle-aged, hilarious queen telling his story in the back of a Cadillac, in a fabulously southern accent. Rent it to hear the story of how he used to sleep in the back of James St. James' car in a caterpillar suit!

I am inspired and want to bring up the bar on the attire we don to go nightclubbing in. Harumpf! All of this makes me miss *BOB*'s and my good old friend, Davelicious, and wish drugs hadn't gotten the better of him. We had such fun nights out on the town, getting dressed up, making up super drag heroes that we were for the night. I think that's why I became a burlesque dancer, cuz I can still get away with saying that everyday is Halloween!
