Read this in order, July 14 Thur post first, and then Andrea's post about fri morning or it won't make sense.
As Kiti walked down the block on her her way home, she couldn't help but relive the mornings events in her mind. It had been all she could do to finish the day, and show up for classes that she knew the Nakamura twins shared with her. She wasn't sure if it was a good or bad thing that they completely her all day, but she figured that being ignored was better than the alternative. She was so preoccupied that she didn't notice her parents Civic parked in front of the house until she started to pass it.
"What are they doing home?" she worried, "they couldn't have heard about this morning." since she hadn't been pulled into the office, she figured that her part (as well as everyone else's apparently) had been overlooked. As she opened the door the first thing she noticed was her mothers tear stained face. Whatever was going on, it was bad. As she kicked off her sandals and walked in her suspicions were confirmed by her fathers voice coming from the sitting room.
"Kitsu," using his pet name for her, "We have some bad news, about Maddie." he said quietly.
"She tried to cut herself again, didn't she, is she gonna be ok?" Kiti was starting to get a really sinking feeling, and she spoke quickly. "I can call her, you know how she is, summer always gets her down, but she's usually ok after awhile."
"I'm sorry hon..." was all he said, confirming the worst.
"H..How? It's my fault isn't it? I should have read the email sooner, or called her or or..." her voice dropped out as she started crying. She felt her Mom engulf her in a hug.
"There's nothing you could have done Kiti..." The rest of what she said was lost as Kiti pulled away and ran into her room, her Mom's words echoing through her head. There was something she could have done, she could have called, could have paid attention and realized how bad her friend was, could have gotten help. There was something she could have done this morning and as a result she still didn't know if she had made any difference besides nearly getting her friends hurt. Everything was blending together in her head until the two events were linked irrevocably together. She didn't know what she could have done to make things better, but whatever it was she hadn't done it. She had to live with that knowledge, and with the knowledge that she probably would never know until it was too late, but that was part of the price of growing up.
