Entry Number Four: .... excuse the lack of wit

Jun 11, 2006 23:23

Anybody wants to ask me what is wrong? No, wait, that's not right.

I'm incurable, that's what's wrong.

My new house is full of lovely funk. No, really.

'Lovely funk', Mr Wagtail? Please define. This is an expression I have never heard before, and cannot begin to imagine what it implies.

I suppose etiquette would demand I send a proper owl for this sort of thing, but my owls are all out on deliveries at the moment, so this will have to do.

Thank you for the unique experience on Wednesday. As I mentioned before, I had never been to an 'amusement park', so the day was wholly new for me, and surprisingly not unpleasant. It was slightly spoilt by a rather severe sunburn I acquired over the course of the day, but as this was due to my own negligence, I'll not hold you responsible for that bit of discomfort.

On the whole, I learnt a very great deal, and as I always strive to learn new things, it was a very welcome 'adventure', indeed.

Sincerely,
S. Snape

Yes, quite the lovely funk. I'll try to explain. I doubt 'lovely' needs clarification, so it is 'funk' that's the subject of discussion here. Hmmmm.... Well, let's start with history - funk is actually a distinct style of music characterized by syncopated rhythms, sharp rhythm guitars, a bit of African tones, and a generally upbeat attitude with strong jazz influences. It's the most danceable music, irregardless at home or elsewhere. For me personally, funk is the Life Force, the energy, the impulse, the groove. It cannot be lovely - it is wild and unconquerable. Saying that it is lovely on my part was an irony of sorts.

Oh, please, don't worry about etiquette, Mr Snape, as I am the one who renders tribute to it the least. I am very glad to have gone there with you, Mr Snape - you turned out to be the best companion I've ever had on such outings ( ... )

I am a Potions Master and a highly accomplished wizard, sir. My sunburn was gone as soon as I determined the lesson had been satisfactorily learnt. I am no less severe with myself than with others.

Seeing as how I did not even know the definition of the word, I fail to understand how I could possibly help restore the health of your... 'funk'. I would not be opposed to offering what assistance you might desire, within reason. It seems the least I can do.

At least you managed to provide me a wholly new and admittedly entertaining experience without mockery and ridicule. Unfortunately, I cannot say the same of my housemates.

Oh I've no doubt, not at all, Mr Snape! I don't know why I even wrote that - hope your sunburn is gone by now. How silly of me. I did not mean to doubt your qualification by any means, not at all.

No worries, Mr Snape, I am pretty sure your intelligence will let you grasp what funk really is. The sad truth is though, I am not sure how to restore the health of my funk too. Had I known - I would have already been back to my usual upbeat.

Your housemates are probably merely envying you. They wish you'd gone there with them, but you did not, and so they are now finding themselves jealous. I know how things like that happen.

Wait, why would I mock and ridicule you though (aside from the instances in which I'd laugh at anyone in similar situation)? How can anyone mock or ridicule you, actually? That's a novel concept.

Hello again!
I am able to read it, yes...why did you think I would not be able to? It has been awhile. Sometimes time just flies by...doesn't it?

I won't ask, but I can't say I don't want to.

Oh- ah, no. I haven't. Been busy lately to work out any better details. Oh, but you like my ocean idea? Well I suppose I'll look into that then.... see if we can't have some fun.

Hello, hello!

I don't know why I thought you wouldn't be able to read my message. I am still pretty much inept with these journals. I've never bothered having one, and only succumbed to the shopkeeper's persuasion because I needed connection with fellow Englishmen.

You won't ask about what? You can ask away about most anything, I thought I've told you this before? Hmmmm... maybe I haven't.

Let's go to the ocean. You are not under the Registry rules, are you? I was thinking we could visit my Dad in Greece, if you'd like. But that's just my thoughts. Let me know what you think about them.

I try to check my journal every night if I'm not extremely busy, so I'll get any messages, sometimes late-- but I'll get them. I think the journals are an excellent way of communication, without tampering.... if you use the privacy charms well. I'm glad you succumbed; else we probably would have never shared missives ( ... )

Oooh! I think I like this journaling system more and more. Who created them, again? He or she must be given an award or something to that effect - even if they were created for the more militant purposes. Nevermind that - even the most lethal of weapons can be turned for greater good ( ... )
