I'm tired. I need sleep. Trainwreck of LJ consumes me.
Thoughts, thoughts...
- This is an adult space (or at least 13 and up, outside the age range of what I would consider proper child molestation). What the hell are we so worried about Protecting The Children for? This is not a place for them. The world is not childsafe. The internet especially is not childsafe. Shut the fuck up about protecting the children. I don't CARE about the children. Jesus. They shouldn't be in here dabbling in the smutcomms. Why arent't the people who gave them life watching what they do? Why the hell was I appointed anyone's babysitter?
- Writing about fictional activites does not constitute acting out said activities in real life. Not a difficicult concept to grasp. And yet...and yet this seems to be far beyond the reach of LJ/6A.
- Suspending users on the basis that their journal contains inappropriate content appalls me. Who decides? Quis custodiet custiodes? Or however the fuck that Latin saying goes. Who's watching the people doing the watching, and making sure they're doing their job correctly? Apparently at the moment, nobody is.
- Why are there still active obvious child molester journals open and active? Why aren't they banned? Why has it taken a slap to the hippocket to get the PTB to do anything, and yet do it so very very badly? Why was it before 'writing about illegal activities is not in and of itself illegal; too bad, so sad', yet now...mass deletion?
- This apology means nothing without clarification of what is and is not acceptable content. The apology on the newsfeed is a big fat crowd calming tactic for those who don't want to think through it and accept it on facevalue. Never believe a PR spin - they're always lying to you.
- This guy sucks ass at apologizing. Condescending, pompous and vaguely threatening. So uncool.
- I still feel threatened. Do you feel threatened? I'm not reassured at all.
- By removing one survivor's journal, they negated any good they did. If any good. I haven't seen anything that really suggests that what they've done will have a lasting effect for the better. Just mass waves of paranoia and suspicion floating through the community space. Great, guys, really.
