Warriors for Innocence
Wow. Well. Where to start with what's being called(variously) Deletecalypse, Strikethrough'07, Porngate and a bunch of other titles?
Fandom's in hysterical panic, but I think the paranoia might be completely justified. Reading, reading, that's my thing, and I've been surfing more then a few of the comms that have addressed the issues. For me, at least, it started at Fandom Wank. From there, it's just exploded. I can't even keep up with it anymore. I'll post some links at the bottom, since I hate inserting the damn things in text.
While none of my interests match the ones that seem to be on the watchlist, I've written about some of them. Namely incest, rape, sex with minors, general bad stuff. Thoughtcrimes, people, thoughtcrimes. Although I think it's pretty fardling obvious I am not a pedophile/sex offender/criminal, I'm going to state that I'm none of the above, just for the record. Although, the group that's being blamed for ratting and pointing out comms and journals (Warriors for Innocence), wouldn't agree with me. I write about it, therefore...that's it. I'm a bad bad person who should be TOS'd off LJ and chased to the ends of Internetia. Mainly because of my filthy filthy incest porn. Although I think Sadistic Trio might be worse in their eyes, I'm not sure.
Since the wipe has included comms like pornish_pixies (a pretty well established HPsmut archive that is - SURPRISE - not a pedophile's comm), rp journals and at least one documented personal journal of a child abuse/rape survivor. Everyone's going around talking about support comms being axed, but I don't think anyone's pinned any down for sure yet. Another surprise hit was a Spanish speaking comm discussing the often contentious and controversial book, Lolita.
It's crazy time, folks. The PTB are listening to what appears to be a vigilante group of two rightwing conservative Christian fanatics who see the Internet as a place where child molesters lurk behind every line of code. Reports also suggest that they bug their page with spyware and/or malware. A fact I, sadly, did not find out until after I'd visited their gorram site. Ugly as shit piece of crap that it is. They appear exceedingly shady, highly fixated on sexing up the childrens, and advise people to bait and trap sex offenders - and then threaten to call the cops, but never actually do so. Shady. As. Hell. Besides, it's awfully disappointing of LJ as well, ya know? Throwing out the baby with the bathwater much?
Anyway, just my thoughts.

So what am I gonna do if I get TOS'd? Well, there's always Greatest Journal, and some of its free features look preeeetty tasty. There's just not as large a fandom prescence, and let's face it. People like what they know, even if what they know is painful to love.

Nonetheless, the first response they gave was to a media outlet, not their users. And the wholescale deletion? Bad, bad idea. At least they admit that. However, they're still being vague about the criteria behind suspension, and what will occur in the future. Guess it's time to batten down the hatches for a while anyway. With this and FanLib, fandom's come far too out in the mainstream spotlight for my liking. Far too far.
