I'm Not Making This Up

I have no idea what "meme" means/stands for, but I believe I have a couple of them to do. They'll have to wait, however, until after this post.

In reading personal development blogs, I came across the idea of Intention-Manifestation and the Law of Attraction. Essentially, the LoA states that you attract what you think about. If you think bad things will happen to you, they will. Likewise, if you focus your energy on good thoughts, good things will happen to you. Intention-Manifestation is an extension of this. The idea behind IM is to actively think about specific things, and then those things will manifest themselves. People have different theories on how this works, ranging from "it doesn't" to "something like the reticular activating system (where you notice all the Integras on the road because you own one, but not the Camry's... essentially 'you notice the things you think about, and therefore you think they're manifesting when really they were there all along')," to "actually altering the very fabric of reality with your thoughts."

I'm not sure if I explained that very well, but the theory boils down to this: actively think about something and it will happen/appear/etc.

I've experimented with this a bit, and I haven't had much success. Usually, however, I intend something worthless (like, no guests come in the restaraunt today) and don't put much thought into it. Today, however, was different.

Getting ready for work, I was thinking about things that would make work better. A lot of things would make my work better, but today, I just wanted to "get along" with my new manager. I wondered if I was creating the conflict/tension between us simply by expecting it to be there and focusing on it. So, I decided to actively try Intention Manifestation. Before work, I stated the following intention several times: "I intend, in a peaceful and healthy manner, a spirit of harmony and cooperation." Early in the work day, I repeated this intention whenever something was about to get to me. If a situation was turning negative (anywhere in the restaurant, not just with my manager), I would leave it, repeating the intention. You know what? It fucking worked. Hardcore.

I'm documenting quite possibly the first day in Hyatt history where everyone was helping everyone else out. Servers were being nice to each other (and to me!). My manager introduced a number of new changes for the restaurant today, but she seemed to do so with the attitude "this will make us a better restaurant" rather than "because I said so." Servers helped bus tables, and one server even jumped on the dish line to help the dishwasher (which is something we never do; dishwashers are the only people "below" restaurant employees, and we love to hold that over them... we're such bitches). When it came time to switch the buffet over to brunch, my manager and a server helped out. Most all the guests were courteous today, and many complimented us. In fact, our staff received so many compliments, my manager the whole staff breakfast. At the end of the day, I asked two servers if they would bus all the remaining tables so I could get to LT on time. They said, "yes." On top of all that, I earned nearly double my daily average in tips, despite a relatively low business level. I've been at this job for over a year now, and I can safely say that all of the above is highly unusual. I have no way to explain all of it except Inention-Manifestation. At least for today, I'm buying into this system.

As though I someone can't turn this off, when I got home tonight, Ester had cleaned the bathroom and turned on the Christmas lights (thanks, Ester!). I always enjoy coming home to our Christmas lights, but I ususually don't get to, because I'm the person who turns them on (which means I'm already home, not driving home). I'm not sure if this is connected or not, but I'll take it. My brain seems to be in random ADD mode now, so I'm going to stop typing and go chill out.
